The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, part of which acreage lies in the City of Victoria, is in final preparations for the arrival of acclaimed environmental sculptor Patrick Dougherty who will build a large outdoor “stick” sculpture on Arboretum grounds during a three-week period in May. Ron and Harriet Holtmeier. Last Tuesday evening The Lake Minnetonka Stamp Club met at the Minnetonka High School. Six other stamp clubs were also invited so it was not unusual that Harriet was invited to set up the snacks and I made the coffee. Ashley Spratt from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service gave a presentation about the Jr. Duck Stamp Show, which Harriet and I volunteered for. In addition, Natalie Sorvari, Manager of Customer Affairs of the U.S. Postal Service, was at the meeting. Natalie had been with us a short time ago but I thought nothing about it until Harriet and I were called up to the front and presented with a commendation signed by the Postmasters of Minneapolis and St. Paul in recognition of our services to the United States Postal Service with a photo of us doing some of our volunteer work. Sue, have you been savings stamps for us? Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
EDITOR’S NOTE: Ron and Harriet have been volunteering 11 years for the U.S. Postal Service. Some of the volunteer work includes helping Santa answer letters that kids send and placing stamps in envelopes that the Post Office distributes to kids at the Minnesota State Fair. Ron said the president of their stamp club is a member of the USPS Advisory Council who volunteers the Holtmeiers in areas where there is a need for volunteers.
