May 2010 |
To the Editor: The Victoria Gazette and the best of reporting local happenings are synonymous in our book. Enclosed is our subscription renewal check. Heartiest wishes for your continued success. Stan and Jayne Hamerski Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Time has come again to renew my subscription to one of the best papers around. Enjoy reading about my hometown and all the changes going on. Leonard found the fishhook on page 6 in the scoop at City Hall. Thanks. Rose Ann Rotzien Alexandria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Your talent for putting out the best little newspaper continues, as I continue to enjoy it, as well as my mornings at the St. Victoria Church and my coffee and visits with my Victoria friends. Happy Easter to all. Connie Borak Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Please print the enclosed obituary of Charles in your nice paper. Thanks. Irene Schleicher Shakopee, Minnesota
EDITOR’S NOTE: I’m sorry, Mrs. Schleicher, but I can’t print obituaries for people outside of Victoria, or at least without obvious Victoria connections, for free.
To the Editor: Our newsprint supplier, AbitibiBowater, has announced a 4% increase on newsprint effective May 1st, 2010, and another 4% effective June 1st, 2010. As always, we are uncertain whether these two increases will go into effect or, if they do, what the actual percentage will be. These increases will bring newsprint prices back to the rate we were seeing in May 2008. If the full amount of the increase goes through, we plan to increase our price to you also on each of those dates by a little less than 2%. If something less than the planned increase occurs, or if there is no increase, we will certainly make the appropriate adjustments. Chris Boesche, Controller Crow River Press Hutchinson, Minnesota
To the Editor: I regret to report that our dear friend Lois Hardy has been put into a hospice and is not expected to live. She and her husband Curt had lived in Victoria for many years. Curt had been a member of the Waconia Masonic Lodge and Lois was a member of the Helena Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. They had been members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church up on Hwy 7 before becoming members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church near Excelsior. Lois had moved to the Eau Claire, Wisconsin, area to be near one of her daughters. Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. My name is Jill Metzger from Chaska. I enjoy so much reading the Gazette. How you pull all of this together is just amazing to me! In addition to the renewed Gazette subscription for my husband Jack and me, I am doubling the amount to include an additional subscription for our Aunt Marie (Diethelm) Schneider. Please add her to your Gazette mailing list, hopefully beginning with the May issue. I’m sure you’ll recall that Marie was married to Germaine’s brother Phil. Marie’s nephew Mike Wartman is such an entertaining contributor to your publication. I believe Marie will be 92 years old in May and this is a gift that my sisters Jeanne and Janice and I would like to give her. On a side note, Sue, our family is grateful for the wonderful writings you did about Germaine. She was my wonderful aunt and godmother and she is greatly missed. Your beautiful tributes reflected our thoughts of her. Thank you. Germaine surely was one of a kind. Jill Metzger Chaska, Minnesota
