I know that the fishing opener and Mother's Day fall about the same time each year and it's never created an issue for us. Even with Allan now retired, I suspect fishing won't rank high on his list or mine. But I never say never. He's been cleaning out his garage and in the process found a boat motor that he used fishing with the guys up in the Boundary Waters many moons ago. Is a boat motor something that retains a useful life or is it sort of like a junk car?

In the meantime, I stay pretty close to the minnow bucket, which sets next to my computer and so it's very handy. Every time I hear from one of you fishhook people, I drop you into it. I never hear gurgling or slushing around, but just a dead silence, and there's no heaving or gasping for air when I pull you out. It's a quiet life in my minnow bucket and in my office, just the way I like it.

When I reached into the bucket this month, I pulled out Helen Schimmelpfennig of Fish Creek, Wisconsin, to win the $10 drawing. Congratulations, Helen. Are there really fish in that creek?
