To the Editor:

Westwood Preschool is proud to announce that it has recently earned accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the leading organization for early childhood professionals.

With assistance from the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children, Westwood Preschool completed a rigorous quality improvement process, was assessed to ensure that they met certain standards, and was ultimately accredited.

The Gazette gets better with the march of time.  Anne and I enjoy reading about the many interesting folks that make up our community.  The Gazette is a great way to learn about what's happening in our community.  Great job!

To the Editor:

Big news.  My collection of short stories, Good Shepherd, is among three finalists for the Midwest Book Awards for short story fiction.  The gala party where winners are announced is May 13th in St. Paul.  The MBA represents 12 states.  Wow.  Attached is a press release.   If you choose to run it, feel free to add "former Victoria resident" or whatever suits you.

On another note, I chatted with Angela Hunt, Carver County Librarian, at the Bloomington Writers Festival.  I suggested she try to pull together three Victoria authors -- Janie Jasin, Fred Pocher, and me -- for a Victoria Library event.  Sound like something you'd be interested in?  Could be fun.

I attended the American Writers Program convention in the Twin Cities last weekend.  What a party.  Good to meet so many fellow writers.  And editors, publicists, layout artists, agents.  What do you think of my idea of having a seance of local writers/readers at the new Victoria Library?

Peter Morgan, a member of the Holy Family Catholic High School Class of 2015, has been named one of 565 semifinalists in the 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholar Program.  Semifinalists were selected from more than 4,300 candidates on the basis of superior achievements, leadership qualities, personal character, and involvement in community and school activities.

To the Editor:

My name is Wilfred Plocher.  I was born and raised in Victoria and managed the Victoria Lumber Company for 27 years.  I am 92 years old and current live at Westview Acres, the senior independent living facility of the Good Samaritan Society complex in Waconia.  Even though I'm living in Waconia, I always consider Victoria to be my home.

I'm writing to share some thoughts about the new Victoria City Office and Library Building.  It is a beautiful building and there is only one thing wrong with it.  It is in the wrong location.  The powers that be decided to cram this building in a small area with limited parking.  The parking that is available is shared with other businesses, and to get to the City Office/Library, it is necessary to cross the street.

Common sense tells me that the idea location would be at the wide open space near the Rec Center where there is unlimited parking, unlike the parking situation that presently exists for the building.

What's done is done and nothing can be done about it now.  The City will just have to live with the problem.
