Victoria Moments Continued |
November 2009 |
The Wettest and Snowiest. It was the morning of Saturday, October 10th, that Victoria woke up to its first snow of the season. Flower pots were still full, plants were still colorful and blooming, leaves were still green, the grass needed mowing. Firm green hosta leaves became limp and heavy to the ground with snow. My potted impatiens were brave at first and stood their ground as though the white frosting was a topping that could be licked away. But on Monday morning, October 12th, the damage was lasting and irreversible as a heavier snowfall (bottom photo) had fallen in the night and crushed any life that may have remained from the 2009 season of growth.
Victoria Senior Commission Honored. The Carver County Board of Commissioners honored the work of the members of the Victoria Senior Commission at their October 27th meeting. Dan McInerny, Chair of the Victoria Commission, and Jerry Schmieg and Tari Clay, members of the Victoria Commission, accepted the recognition on behalf of all the members. Others members include Ronald Allen, Dave Lindgren, Linda McNulty, James Pehringer, Julie Murray, Jim Hoffman, and Mayor Mary Thun as liaison member. The Senior Commission has an initiative working with the city’s churches to identify the unmet needs of the older members and continues to explore options for housing and transportation in the city. The Commission, comprised of residents of Victoria, meets monthly at Victoria City Hall and advises the Victoria City Council on issues concerning senior citizens. CenturyLink. I’m sure you’ve heard the buzz going on for a while now, but as of the week of October 19th, Embarq is now officially CenturyLink. Centurytel and Embarq officially launched the new CenturyLink brand throughout the company’s 33-state service area that week. CenturyLink began its brand advertising at the end of August, and customers began seeing the new name and logo on bills, buildings, and vehicles in late October. There will be no changes to customers’ phone numbers or local services. I’m hoping we can be added to your online Grapevine at www.VictoriaGazette.com. I appreciate your time and consideration Carrie Amann CenturyLink Headquarters Monroe, Louisiana
