The Scoop

at City Hall

Passengers began departing from the ship as previously arranged, according to given colors, over the next two hours.  We watched most of it from our 9th floor balconies until it was our turn.  We were going through customs by 11 a.m. and it didn’t take long.  There was a continuous maze of people in crawling lines roped through a huge warehouse-like building.  Our luggage appeared in the color-coded sections of the warehouse, flawlessly.  Amazing.

We arrived by taxi at JFK at 12:30 p.m. with three hours to kill.  Let me tell you, JFK does not compare well in space or amenities to the rather outstanding Minneapolis airport.  But we managed fine.

We were home in Victoria before 7 p.m. that evening.  It’s a bit mind boggling that we can eat breakfast while cruising on the Atlantic Ocean and at suppertime be in our own home.  As we ate a sandwich at my kitchen counter and toasted each other with one more glass of wine, we felt like empty seashells -- grounded and beached after giving eleven of our days to the Atlantic Ocean -- and yet we were also full.

We had been filled with good food, good fun, good friends.  Only time and this journal of memories, and my extensive array of photos online in Sue’s Album at www.VictoriaGazette.com, remain to remind us Our Ocean’s Eleven.
