The Victoria GAZETTE |
To the Editor: Thanks for doing a great newspaper for the community. My wife Brenda and I moved to Victoria about a year ago and have enjoyed learning more about the community all the time by reading the Gazette. Regarding the giant Adirondack chair, I believe it is up in Danbury, Wisconsin. I’m a director of a Bible camp, Luther Park Camp and Retreat Center, which is just a few miles east of Danbury, Wisconsin, and I have driven by that chair (or another one just like it) many, many times. This was our first Volksfest and we had a wonderful time. Thanks again for your work Joel Legred Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: If you are available at 11:30 this morning, the Victoria Fire Department Relief Association will be donating and dropping off approximately $400 worth of school supplies at the Victoria Elementary School. Tim Walsh, Fire Chief Victoria Fire Department Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am writing to you regarding the Minnehaha Watershed District’s proposed purchase of property near Lake Wasserman. In my opinion, I believe there is no reason for the Watershed District to purchase this property, and the same results can be achieved by partnering with the City of Victoria. I would encourage the District to work with the City of Victoria regarding this property. Randy Maluchnik Carver County Commissioner
To the Editor: Thank you for including the picture of the 1950 graduation class of St. Victoria Catholic School in the Gazette. It looked very nice. You add a lot of news every month. You are a wonderful storyteller. It’s good to read about people from years before I left in 1952 and the new people since 1952. Thank you for your newsy Gazette. God’s blessings. Peace to everyone. Sister Lois Hauwiller St. Paul, Minnesota
To the Editor: School’s back. I bet all the parents are in their glory. It even gives grandparents a break. I used to dread summer because I’d get stuck going to summer school and get stuck taking math classes as I was a dough-head in math. I never could understand metrics. I was bad at long division and fractions. Years later when I moved to Talheim Apartments, I met people who were in the same boat. It ruins a kid’s self esteem when they’re in 5th grade and the teacher doesn’t realize or understand learning disabilities and sends the kid to a psychologist and the kid gets diagnosed as retarded. Yes, dear readers, that happened to me 35 years ago. The letter came from the shrink and Mom showed it to me. I heard of the condition, looked in the medical book, and showed it to Mom. She said, “Ach, that is definitely not you.” Even way back in the 1940’s kids with learning problems were considered retarded and put in mental institutions where they were physically abused. I still graduated in 1983 from high school. I was not a quitter. I have my diploma, class ring, yearbooks, graduation cap and tassel. The tassel is worth the hassle! The fishhook is on page 37 in the September Gazette, on the tooth. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
