The Victoria GAZETTE |
To the Editor: You've saved me. I just saw the picture of daughter Caroline in the Gazette. I am so happy your photographer was able to get a picture as my camera malfunctioned during the event. Could you send a copy of the picture to me? Jim Crowley Victoria, Minnesota
EDITOR'S NOTE: As usual, the Gazette photographer be me.
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I noticed in the September issue of the Gazette that Ten Years Ago in August one Jesse Coghill turned 75. What a coincidence. Ten years later that same Jesse Coghill turned 85. He's still the same lovable guy he always was, although he has had to cut down on his all night drinking and dancing to four nights a week. He still goes to church on Sunday. He sends his regards to all the good folk in the little hamlet of Victoria. In the words of the late Walter Cronkite, "And that's the way it is." Jesse Coghill Jordan, Minnesota
To the Editor: Randy Maluchnik in his plaid shorts last month looks like he's all decked out for a few games of pasture pool at Deer Run. Your fishhook is on the letter 'S' in the Bertas Funeral Ad. Did you see the newsletter from Eastern Carver County Schools? Extra moo juice is up 45 cents. When I was at Chaska High School (now Middle School West), extra moo juice was a dime, even the chocolate moo juice that came on Thursdays. High school lunch tickets were $20. It was a blue card with a month's worth of chow, and each number was punched daily. By the time I was a junior in 1982, they switched to movie theater-type tickets. Low income lunch was free, not 40 cents discount. Many of those kids in high school went without, drank pop, or mooched a meal ticket from their buddy. Some tried it on me. Mooch me for gum, pens, paper, chapstick, food tickets? No dice. If they can afford to smoke, they can supply their own school things. Mom watched the sales and coupons to stock up. We used leftover pens and paper from the year before, and then new stuff. We didn't have the latest fads or lunch boxes with the newest cartoon character. We just went to school, did our homework, got up the next day, and started over. We ten kids did just fine, too! Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District has launched a brand new website, making it easier for citizens, developers, planners, shoreline owners, media representatives, and others to find the information they need and engage with us. The new site features a user-friendly organization and pages that are interlinked and searchable. Visitors can indicate how they relate to the District (such as, "I am a paddler" or "I am a developer") and see a list of pages relevant to them. Each page generates its own RSS feed, allowing readers to receive updates on whichever sections they like using any RSS reading software. For the first time, our database of water quality information on lakes and streams in the District will be online and available for anyone to use. We are still working out the final kinks and it will be public soon. Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Deephaven, Minnesota
