Columbus Day. Monday, October 10th. Observed annually on the second Monday of October, celebrates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the New World of the Americas in October of 1492. Columbus was an explorer and sailor by occupation, Italian by birth, and Catholic Christian by faith. His voyage was sponsored by the Catholic sovereigns of Spain, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
Back to the '50's. Carver County Senior Expo at the Waconia High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Speakers, prizes, entertainment.
From Tanzania with Love. Moravian missionaries, Drs Bill and Peg Hoffman, are visiting the Lake Auburn Moravian Church in Victoria on Saturday, October 22nd, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Followed by potluck supper and an evening worship service.
Gazette Deadline. Deadline for the November issue of the Gazette is Monday, October 24th, or as close to that date as possible without being too late.
City of Victoria Council Meetings. Held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall on Rose Street. Monday, October 10th, and Monday, October 24th. Victoria Lions Meetings. Held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall on Rose Street. Wednesday, October 12th, and Wednesday, October 26th.
Halloween Party. Saturday, October 29th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Main Street Victoria. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Victoria City Hall. Sponsored by the Victoria Lions and the Victoria Business Owners Association.
Daylight Savings Ends. Time will fall back to Standard Time on Sunday, November 6th, when Daylight Savings Time ends. It is said that Benjamin Franklin was the first person to suggest the concept of daylight savings, realizing it would be beneficial to make better use of daylight.
Victoria Business Owners Association meets on an irregular basis.
Victoria Senior Citizens meet weekly on Thursdays at the Acorn House in Diethelm Park.
