Swimming pools are now drained, boats are plastic wrapped and lifted into place on giant boat shelves, garden hoses are unhooked from faucets, curled up, and put away, fountains are drained, lawnmowers are moved to a back corner of the garage, gutters are emptied, fishing poles are set aside until the lakes freeze over. Lawn furniture is leaving the deck. Christmas tree lights are being strung on evergreen trees before the weather turns nasty. There is a season for everything under the sun.

Regardless the change of season, some things don't change. Whether the maple trees are green or orange, a Gazette deadline looms before me. Whether the hostas are just peeking through the ground or dying into the dirt, I hide a fishhook in the Gazette each month. Whether squirrels are burying or uprooting things all over our yard, I fill up these pages for you. Come rain or shine, sleet or snow, the Gazette gets done and delivered. Amazing grace!

And so in this beautiful new season I played in the minnow bucket for a moment with all of this month's entries for the Hook Line & Sinker Contest and pulled out Kay Meuwissen, that faithful letter writer who could actually be considered a regular Gazette columnist. Congratulations, Kay. Yes, indeed, the fishhook was wrapped around a pillar of the Bertas Funeral Home on page 40 in the September issue of the Gazette. The ten bucks will arrive in time to purchase supplies for the Trick or Treaters.
