To the Editor: Saw the picture of Greyson in the September issue. May I have an electronic copy to post on Facebook? Thank you. Jim Crowley Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: As a Victoria resident for the last 18 years and a volunteer for the City of Victoria, I am pleased to endorse the candidacy of Tom O'Connor for mayor. For a number of years, I have been Victoria's citizen representative to the Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission and its current vice-chair. Tom was the Victoria City Council representative to the LMCC during my first year of service. That connection gave me the opportunity to get to know Tom on a one-to-one basis. In subsequent years, I have discussed city issues with Tom and know from personal experience that he is a good listener who cares. With his years of experience in business and city government, proven leadership skills, availability, and his positive relationships with our city staff, I would strongly recommend you vote for Tom O'Connor as Victoria's next mayor. To the Editor: Thank you for the full page story in your September issue. As Admissions Director, I loved the free publicity. Have a great weekend. Sue Buening Southwest Christian High School Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Back to school and the parents are thinking, "They're out of my hair for seven hours." I remember snow days. Mom had WCCO AM radio going besides her all time favorite, the KSMM Shakopee station, which is defunct 25 years ago. Boone and Erickson were on old 'CCO with school closings announced at 6 or 7 a.m. We would hear, "Chaska Public and Parochial, no school." Ma would say, "Ach!" The best place to go sledding was the hill behind Terry Schwalbe's dad's garage. No rocks. No tree stumps. Terry's dad Traugott didn't mind. If he's in his garage putzing around, he would watch me and my little brother Gerry and the three older nieces Sarah, Rachael, and Christine go sledding. Traugott laughed when my little brother and I shoved the three nieces in the sleds. We called them tub sleds. They were like a bathtub with handles. We'd lay in them as if they were a bed and slide down the hill with snow flying in our face. We lived on the next street, East 6th Street, just around the corner from Traugott. We'd come in with reddened faces and runny noses. I can smell Mom is making sloppy joes or rice hotdish or caramel corn. I'd smell it five houses up our street. Halloween was funny to Traugott. He and Delores, his wife, always had Snickers bars for treats. We'd come to their door and he always knew it was us. "Oh, yeah, the Meuwissen kids." We'd get two bars and he'd laugh at our costumes. The mints and mounds bars and anything else I didn't like, I's say, "Here ya go, Ma." Dad would sneak up and grab a butterscotch candy. I'd stash the caramels before he got them. Always had to tease us on Halloween. I remember the Halloween of 1991 when Dad bought a 600-piece bag of tootsie rolls. But only 17 kids came to our door. We had tootsie rolls all the way into Father's Day 1992. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
