*Council approved a lease agreement with Faith Lutheran Church in Victori whereby the preschool program that has been operating at the Acorn House in Diethelm Park will continue for one year at the church at a city cost of $180/month. The Acorn House is being removed to accommodate a second sheet of ice at the Field House. *Council approved the hiring of Jason Brandenburg, Erick Boder, and Kristin Johnson as part time seasonal staff for the Field House with wages that range from $9 to $11/hour. *Council authorized the hiring of David Shoger to the Victoria Fire Department in the basic firefighter position which is paid $8.24 per hour per call on duty. Firefighters have the opportunity to expand their training into specialized areas based upon interest. The Victoria Fire Department is authorized to have up to 35 firefighters. Currently there are 27. *Council approved the appointment of Advisory Committee members to the School District 112 and City of Victoria Joint Powers Agreement for the Victoria Field House. The members include Ann Mahnke and Jim Paulsen from the City of Victoria, Steve Pumper and Dick Unger from District 112, Victoria resident Heather Cole, and city/school representative Mary Erickson. *Council authorized the disposal of surplus equipment from the Acorn House such as thermostats, cabinets, new windows, and sprinkler system parts that will be transferred to the appropriate department for use. Council also authorized the nonprofit Green Institute to salvage building materials for resale, materials such as flooring, doors, millwork, lighting, hardware. The Green Institute charges an administrative fee to assist with costs associated with the removal. Anticipated fee for the Acorn House ranges up to $800. *Council approved the purchase of a .3-acre parcel of land within the LRT trail corridor. The property is located at 8020 81st Street and the homeowner is willing to sell the trail parcel to the City of Victoria for $4,000. Estimated market value is $1,200. The parcel is located on the proposed future trail alignment and is one lot west of Kirke Lachen Park. Purchase of this parcel is critical to the future trail extension along this corridor. There are currently five parcels of land held in private ownership along this proposed corridor. *Council approved a license agreement with Rick Recker for Race Coordinator services for the Volksfest 5K Run and 1 Mile Kids Run. The city will provide $275 as compensation for the race coordination. *The Victoria Chamber of Commerce received a one-day temporary on sale liquor license for the Victoria Volksfest. *Council approved a Hawker’s License for Jose Perez for Pepes Ice Cream to sell ice cream treats from his truck from August 18th through August 23rd. *Councilmember Tim Amundsen asked that all berms in the city be identified as to ownership and maintenance agreements. Many berms in Victoria are city-owned. *Administrator Don Uram asked for further direction in September regarding the possibility of temporary city hall office space at the Creamery site. |
