To the Editor: The Victoria Fireworks on the Saturday night of Volksfest were most spectacular and long in time! Many thanks to the folks who underwrote the costs and worked to have them available. Harriet and I watched them from the fishing pier on Stieger Lake, not far from where Art Heutmaker once rented boats. Uncle Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: It was nice you wrote about your Nordic Adventure. You and Allan took good pictures. It was interesting reading about all you did. Keep up the good work and job you do. The fishhook is on page 4 in the mailbox. Marie Otten Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, I hope things are going well with you. We are nearing completion of the Hwy 5 project in Victoria and I'd like to invite you to two events on Wednesday, August 29th. At 4:00 p.m. we will have the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on the east side of the bridge. That will be led by the mayor and other local leaders and partners. You are then welcome to stay from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. when we will have the Grand Re-opening Celebration on Hwy 5 between Victoria Drive and Quamoclit Street. We'll have cake, ice cream, and lemonade as well as a number of family friendly activities. The scheduled re-opening of the highway is August 30th. Holly Kreft Community Development Director City of Victoria
To the Editor: Good news! Highway 5 is scheduled to reopen this afternoon, August 31st, between the east junction of Stieger Lake Lane and County Road 11. The road will be open; however, over the next few weeks you may encounter some shoulder closures and off-peak flagging operations so crews can continue some work on the bridge deck and put in permanent striping. Kirsten Klein MnDOT Public Affairs
To the Editor: State Senator Julianne Ortman of Chanhassen (District 34) was presented the Champion for Lawsuit Reform Award, commending her legislative efforts to reform Minnesota's justice system. Senator Ortman is the first ever recipient of this award. It distinguishes Senator Ortman as Legislator of the Year on behalf of Minnesotans for Lawsuit Reform, a group comprised of 45 business trade associations and regional chambers of commerce, representing more than 58,000 employers and almost 100 other separately named individuals and businesses. Making key reforms to our state's civil justice system will help lower costs to consumers of the goods and services they buy. Good progress has been made over the past few years, but there is more work to be done. Our state's residents deserve swift justice and a court system that encourages early and fair resolution of legal disputes. Senator Ortman has long believed that Minnesota's Civil Justice System has been in desperate need of reform. In recent years, Senator Ortman introduced and advanced bills to reform the statute of limitations, to reform class action lawsuits, and to lower the prejudgment interest rate on awards and judgments.
