by Sue Orsen The Victoria Volksfest It was probably the most wonderful Volksfest ever. The 80-degrees and balmy breezes August 16th and 17th were balanced by the brilliant blue sky decorated with big bouncy clouds that provided occasional shade reprieve. People rubbed shoulders, folded arms, extended hands, and greeted old friends and new. Victoria has come of age. It was a thriving village prior to the 1960's. Then, after some decades of decay and dilapidation it transitioned from an agrarian village to an outlying suburb of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The August Affair was a Wunderbar Victoria Volksfest. Primary sponsor is the Victoria Business Owners Association. Said President Randy Miller, "Without the in-kind giving and cooperation from the City of Victoria, all of our events would be difficult to hold. Ann Mahnke and her staff from the Public Works Department are simply the best." He estimated attendance at 3,000 to 3,500 with over 1,000 for the fireworks display Saturday night on Stieger Lake in beautiful downtown Victoria.
