To the Editor: Chaska American Legion Post #57 will host a First Responder Patriot Day Appreciation Party on Friday, September 11th, from 4 to 7 p.m. Legion, Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of American Legion members will be serving American brats, beans, and beverages for all past and present first responders. The Chaska American Legion Family believe that in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, we must remember that first responders rushed into a burning Pentagon and climbed the stairs of smoking towers on the verge of collapse. Our first responders save lives and property in our communities almost every day. The Legion family would like to express our appreciation for the fine public service provided by our first responders. The fire departments of Chaska, Carver, and Victoria have been invited by letter. The Chaska Police Department and the Sheriff's folks were also invited, along with the Ridgeview Ambulance crews. The Chaska Legion is located at 102 West 4th Street in Chaska. If you have questions regarding this event, contact me at 612-964-5382. Randy Maluchnik, Legion Commander Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I'm the editor of Southwest Metro Magazine, and I'm writing to see if you would be interested in being featured in our publication. I'd love to do a story on local reporters and editors who have been covering their community for a long time. We'd also want to photograph you. What do you think? Are you interested? Liz Potasek, editor Southwest Metro Magazine
EDITOR SUE: I'm featured every month on page 5 of the Gazette.
To the Editor: Dear Victoria Community. I want to thank everyone for their love and support during this horrific time in my life, losing my beloved daughter Alexis "Lexi" Kretsch, also known as Smiley. I've raised her on my own since she was a baby and she is my only child so we were unbelievably close. I told Lexi every day how proud I was of her, as I knew she was a very special girl for only being 16 1/2 years old. Her care love, and compassion for others were always obvious. However, I did not know the true extent of how many people she really impacted. I have received and loved receiving hundreds of letters from residents in Victoria, the families of the children she worked with through the Park and Recreation Department in Victoria and Carver, telling me how she impacted them in such a positive way that goes beyond what a normal 16-year old would do. Most people also commented on her smile illuminating the room and making them feel welcome and happy every time she saw them and how her contagious laugh would put a smile on their faces. Many residents have known Lexi since she was 2, when I started working at the City of Victoria 14+ years ago, and it is so heartfelt to hear how so many people knew her and how she would go out of her way to say hi to them and share her smile. Parents will never get over losing their child; it is unnatural. However, as I go through the grieving process I am going to focus on her smile and make Lexi's Smile her legacy and give back in projects that will make other people smile in her memory. So many people donated to the Give Forward site for me to do just that, and I say thank you. Please go to the site https//www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/xcf9 to get updates on projects that I am working on to give back and keep her smile going. A very special thank you on behalf of myself, my family, and Lexi's legacy to the Victoria community, friends I have made over the years in Victoria, the City Council, and my friends (co-workers) at City Hall for your support and ongoing support during this very, very difficult time in my life. Warm regards. Jennifer Kretsch, City Clerk City of Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor: Thank you for all the news you give us by way of your Great Gazette. Read your editorial about Planned Parenthood. What they do is certainly sinful. Hope your grocery store will survive. This is a big necessity for Victoria. Have a great rest of the summer. Fishhook is on page 29 in the DMA Dentistry ad. Ethel Schneider, Shakopee, Minnesota |
