Spring Break Continued

April 2010

Did you know that wells at Tioga are producing at a  rate up to 1,095 barrels of oil equivalent per day?  There are currently over 4,000 oil-producing wells in North Dakota alone, producing over 135,000 barrels a day, heading to 250,000 barrels per day, and likely 400,000 by mid 2011.  The cost of drilling a well, reported by the American Petroleum Institute, was $4.1 million in 2006.

Did you know North Dakota ranks among the top oil producing states in the union?  The annual thousand barrels per day figures from 2008 are as follows:  Texas (1,087), Alaska (897), California (586), Louisiana (199), North Dakota (172).    Most recent 2010 figures show that North Dakota now ranks fourth among the states in oil production.

Did you know that one barrel of oil is equal to 42 U.S. gallons?  That first Clarence Iverson Well at Tioga produced 585,000 barrels for 38 years.  Clarence died a wealthy man in 1986, “a man who never got used to all that money,” his son Cliff Iverson said.  Cliff still raises durum wheat on the farm and lives in the pink home where he grew up, though he can afford not to.  “Guys that are used to living simply are hard to change,” he said.

Did you know that some of the area’s best playgrounds are not in the school yards or city parks?  See my grandchildren and friends running in the rocky hills near Tioga.
