The Scoop

at City Hall

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Found the fishhook on page 26 in Steve and  Kathy Schmieg’s ad, in the ‘W’ of Wilson.  God bless and a Blessed Easter to you and yours.

To the Editor:

Local residents regularly comment on “community” in this newspaper.  The District 112 Foundation would like to draw attention to one aspect of community -- that is, those in our community who support our schools and teachers.

For the past three years, and again this year, KleinBank and Casualty Assurance are the generous sponsors of the District 112 Teacher of the Year recognition dinner and awards event.  These local businesses provide $5,000 annually in grants to the teacher finalists to fund projects at their individual schools.

In addition, Rick Ford and Community Insurance Advisors have sponsored a reception for the finalists at one of our schools.                On April 25th, 2010, five teachers in our school district will be honored as nominees for the 2010 Teacher of the Year in Eastern Carver County Schools.  We are grateful for our philanthropic community members who are helping to recognize outstanding teachers in this way.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Maybe you’ll enjoy the enclosed piece written by Patt Barnes of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“On that beautiful Easter Monday morning I noticed the old flower lady sitting in her usual place inside a small archway.  At her feet, corsages and boutonnieres were parading on top of a spread-open newspaper.  The flower lady was smiling, her wrinkled old face alive with some inner joy, and on impulse I said to her, “My, you look happy this morning.”

“Why not?” she answered.   “Everything is good.”

She was dressed so shabbily and seemed so very old that I couldn’t help saying, “Don’t you have any troubles?”

“You can’t reach my age and not have troubles,” she replied.  “Only it’s like Jesus and Good Friday.  When Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, that was the worst day for the whole world.  When I get troubles I remember that, and then I think of what happened only three days later -- Easter, and our Lord arising.  So when things go wrong, I’ve learned to wait three days, and somehow everything gets much better.”

She then smiled goodbye, but her words still follow me whenever I think I have troubles.  Give God a chance to help.  Wait three days.

To the Editor:

One afternoon a couple weeks ago, I was at a party and somehow ended up with a large box of Dots candy.  Since I don’t like candy unless it contains lots of artery clogging ingredients, the Dots have been sitting in my car unopened.  Then it dawned on me that they are one of your favorite candies, so if you happen to come across a large box of Dots at the piano, they are from me.
