To the Editor: Nice pictures of the Victoria Fishing Contest in the March Gazette. I enjoyed "Like the Klondike" story in the February Gazette. I have friends and relatives that live in Alaska, beautiful country but a wilderness. The road construction will bring many more stories in the months to come. Thank you for a good paper. Sandra Dahl Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Recently we were on vacation and out of the country. While we were gone, a neighbor checking on our house noticed the fire alarms going off. The neighbor, not seeing any immediate danger, called the City of Victoria to see how to handle it. The City told him to call 911 and report it as a non-emergency call. That was done and the first to arrive was a Carver County Sheriff. Following that arrival was the City of Victoria Fire Department. The Fire Department ran several tests to determine that there was no immediate danger of fire or gas leaks. It was ultimately determined to be a low battery in one of the alarms. Not sure why that would set off all of the alarms, but that seems to be the case. The Fire Department replaced all of the alarm batteries and the problem was solved. My point here is that the City and the Fire Department responded rapidly and solved the problem. I would like to thank them both for their professionalism and quick response. My wife and I consider it a privilege to live in such a great community. We hope everyone supports their local Fire Departments. They are awesome. Steve and Donna Leighton Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor: Thank you for all your news and interesting stories in the Gazette, too many to name. Your March editorial reminded me that I was about 5 feet and 86 pounds when I was in the 11th grade. Some things come in small packages. I was out in Buffalo, St. Bonifacius, and Victoria in February. My sister in law Mary Hauwiller has gone to eternal life. Her husband, my brother Jim, died September 4th, 2008. We drove past Carver Park and the former farm of Francis and Catherine Hauwiller and family. The entrance to the Park was the entrance to our farm that Henry McKnight bought. We lived at that farm from 1938 to 1959 when our parents bought a farm three miles from Watertown. They had 40 happy years in Watertown. Happy Spring. Happy and Blessed Easter. God's Peace. Sister Lois Hauwiller St. Paul, Minnesota
To the Editor: I'm enclosing a piece of reflections on The Winter of Life, which is very true. You may feel that it's suitable for the Gazette, all or part of it ... "Here it is, the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast? It seems just yesterday that I was young, newly married, and embarking on my new life with my mate. Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And where did my youth go? Taking a nap is not a treat anymore; it's mandatory, because if I don't on my own free will, I just fall asleep where I sit. Life goes by quickly and we have no promise that we will see all the seasons, so say all the things that you want your loved ones to hear and remember." I turned 83 on February 21st. Each day we live can be a blessing. It is all up to the individual. Your devoted supporter and reader, Malcolm MacAlpine Victoria, Minnesota
