A New Roundabout on Hwy 7. Residents of Victoria who travel the Dairy Queen Road (County Road 11) to Hwy 7 to get to St. Bonifacius or Hutchinson and other places may (or may not) need to find another route. TH 7 will be closed in that area during the construction of a roundabout (and its approaches) at the intersection of Hwy 7 and Co. Rd. 11 from May 2013 to the Fall of 2013. The roundabout, which will border Minnetrista and Victoria, will be aligning Co. Rd. 11 on th south side of Hwy 7 with Kings Point Road on the north side of Hwy 7. A large development called Woodland Cove is on the drawing board for approximately 500 acres in the northeast quadrant of that intersection. It is anticipated that Woodland Cove will bring in over 1,000 housing units in a 10 to 12-year buildout. The development extends north along Kings Point Road up to Halsted's Bay on Lake Minnetonka. The roundabout and the development is located in the City of Minnetrista and Hennepin County. Among several agencies involved in the project are the Three Rivers Park District and Carver County, since the both a corner of the Park and Carver County Road #11 are involved.
Kylie Dahlgren, daughter of Andrew and Kimberly Dahlgren of Victoria, did quite well at the MN Short Course Senior Championship, which is the MN State Meet for club swimming. The "senior" part is for ages 15 and up. It's the best swimmers in the state that are allowed to compete. Kylie is member of the Aquajets Swim Team, which is a swim club affiliated with USA Swimming. The photos shows one of Kylie's backstroke event starts. She finished 2nd in the 200 Back, 5th in the 100 Back, plus she had high finishes in two more individual and two relay events. Aquajets won the State Meet with Kylie being a big point contributor. The Senior Championship was held March 7th-9th at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. Participants included every USA Swimming-affiliated club in the state who had any swimmers that met the time standards. Suzi Olson, Communications Coordinator for the Aquajets Eden Prairie, Minnesota
Queen Maddy Schalow. There have been nine years of royalty at Westview Acres Waconia. In 2009 the queen was Maddy Schalow, former longtime resident of Victoria. The king was Norm Benson who grew up in Vesta, MN, and then lived in Bird Island for 30 years before moving to Westview. The royalty get to keep their crowns and they're different every year. Anyone living at Westview is eligible for the honor, and only residents at Westview do the voting, although the event is always sponsored by Pleasant Valley 4H Club. The only official job of our royalty is to crown near year's King and Queen. I'm looking forward to the next Victoria Gazette. Thank you for the publicity. Carol Reich, Resident Services Coordinator Waconia, Minnesota
