From the Editor. In the last issue of the Gazette, I transposed some numbers and that is not a good thing to do! Along with photos and story in the City Scoop pages of the July 2009 issue about retiring Victoria Firefighters, I reported that Doug Schmieg answered 1,073 calls for service in his 27 years as a Firefighter. In fact, he answered 1,730 calls -- a much more stupendous number! -- before retiring this spring. Doug became a Victoria Firefighter in 1982. He responded to calls as a Firefighter First Responder and worked at Victoria Fire Department Open Houses, the Victoria Fire Department Annual Fishing Contests, and other functions of the VFD. Thank you, Doug Schmieg. I’m sorry for the error. Hello to your lovely wife Brenda. Take care and thank you, once again, for your dedicated service to the Fire Department and the citizens of Victoria. Sue Orsen, Editor Victoria, Minnesota

The boys all received commemorative watches and were invited to go onto the field at the July 27th Twins game against the Chicago White Sox.
