International Ballet. Shelby Gilliland, Amy Norheim of Victoria, and Taylor Troyak (l-r) recently returned from the International Ballet School in Jackson, Mississippi, where they spent two weeks in June studying with Tatiana Tchernova, Rhodie Jorgenson, Arleen Sugano, Donna Delseni, and additional world renowned instructors of Classical Ballet. The students traveled to Jackson with their instructor Jocelyn Braudt of River Valley Dance Academy of Chaska. This competition can be compared to the Olympics for Ballet Dancers. International judges from each participating country serve as adjudicators for the main events. World competitors came from Japan, Korea, China, the Ukraine, Canada, Portugal, Belgium, France, Italy, and the USA, among others. Jocelyn Braudt Chaska, Minnesota
Handsome Heilands. The first picture is of my husband John on his birthday in March, holding three new gifts of grandchildren: (l-r) Evan Vanderlinde, Jake Heiland, and Julia Heiland. Jake was born in January, Evan in February, and Julia in March! Grandma Joyce is holding granddaughter Evie. It was taken on the day of Julia’s baptism in July. The second picture is of our children with their families. L-r: Bill, Jen, and Evan Vanderlinde; Jeff, Ruth, and Julia Heiland; Joe, Michelle, Evie, and Jake Heiland. Yellowstone Trail. I took this picture on July 3rd in downtown Victoria. Terry Hartman (right) recognized the biker’s t-shirt with the yellow “Yellowstone Trail” logo. Apparently Victoria is located on this historic trail that starts in Seattle and ends in Boston. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time! The biker gave me his card and his twitter address so we could follow his progress. If folks want to read all about it and get the map showing where Victoria fits into the trail, the website is yellowstonetrail.org Nan Emmer Victoria, Minnesota
60 Years Ago. I noticed that no one wrote about our 8th grade class 60-year reunion celebration this past May, so I’m sending you our picture from 1950. Thank you for all the news in every Gazette. I enjoy your interesting stories. Sister Rolaine Diethelm, who died June 2nd, 2010, was a former parishioner of St. Victoria. Her brother Vern was in my 8th grade school class. Thank you for your great and wonderful newspaper. Front (l-r): Vernon Diethelm, Ray Krautbauer, Jim Schmieg. Gallery Parents and Parade. Here are some pictures of the Independence Day celebration held in the Gallery neighborhood of Victoria on Wednesday, June 30th. It included a bike and scooter parade with many of the kids from our neighborhood. At the left are the Gallery neighborhood parents. Children in the photo (to the right) include Danny Renner, Lindsay Rosenoff, Katryn Rosenoff, Ashley Payette, Cole Stokes, Kaleah Udeani, Emily Renner, Ethan Wolff, Ava Rustowicz, Emilio Escalante, Nathan Rosenoff, Mackenzie Rosenoff, Isabella Escalante, and Matt Wolff driving the car. Kennan Klutes and Katryn Rosenoff also rode in the parade. Jeanette Renner Gallery neighborhood parents Victoria, Minnesota
Kids Racing for Kids Who Can’t. This is a picture of four Victoria 5th graders at the July 17th Miracles of Mitch Triathlon at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis. They are (l-r) Lauren Scherbing, Grace Lund, Alex Harmdierks, and Annie Lemieux. The next triathlon is taking place at Lake Ann in Chanhassen on August 21st. These girls and all the kids who participate raise money to support children and families dealing with cancer. With a theme of “Kids Racing for Kids Who Can’t,” the Miracle Kids Triathlon promotes fitness, a healthy lifestyle, and community involvement. Julie Scherbing Victoria, Minnesota
