Do fishermen still use bobbers? I suspect they do, although with all the digital gadgetry and electronic equipment flooding every corner of our lives today, I wouldn’t be surprised if bobbers went the way of typewriters and slide rules.

In any case, I’d like to hang onto at least one bobber until death do us part, the one hanging from the ceiling in our garage. It’s tied to a string of fish-line and is suspended 4.5 feet from the ceiling, which means it’s 3.5 feet from the floor. When I drive into the garage, I always know just how far to go before stopping. I go until the bobber touches my windshield.

One little warning here. If you decide a bobber is the best way to keep your garage walls intact, and if you’re coming home on a very rainy day, be sure to shut off your windshield wipers before you get to the bobber. If you don’t, you may never ever find your bobber again. It’s sort of like looking for the fishhook that I hide in each and every issue of the Gazette. You know it’s there somewhere, but you just can’t put your finger on it.

Last month the fishhook was wrapped around the letter ‘t” of “Customer Appreciation” in the KleinBank ad on page 14. As usual I reached into the minnow bucket full of entries and pulled out Patti Lazzari of Chaska. Congratulations, Patti. Your ten bucks winnings will be on its way to you soon and very soon.

As you might expect -- habits are hard to break -- I hid another fishhook in this issue of the Gazette. It’s waiting for you, like a bobber on the surface of Schutz Lake.
