Dedicated to the sunshine of truth, the moonshine of meeting deadlines, and the starshine of Victoria. |
To the Editor: I live at the edge of Lions Park in Victoria. It is Sunday night, July 20th, as I write this and the Lions and teams are all gone now. Three days of softball to watch from my patio. I could hear all the shouts and calls for the outfield players. I also had about four balls near my patio because players were so good and hit the balls out of the park. They were all having fun and the weather cooperated for them. I look forward to next year's Lions Weekend. It is sooooo quiet tonight. I miss them. There were some streetlights on Rhoy Street toppled by vandals on Saturday night, the 19th. Not sure who did it or why. Gloria Grimsrud Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am an employment counselor with Carver County Workforce Services. I have been at the Workforce for a number of years and one of our resources that we receive is the Victoria Gazette. As you may know, our Workforce Center services all of Carver County as well as the surrounding communities. In the last year we have seen an uptick in employment needs and we would like to find a way to reach out to Carver County residents who are still unemployed or under employed from the last economic downturn. I am contacting you in hopes that our Workforce Center could be featured in the Gazette to remind job seekers of all the services we have to offer. Please let me know if this would be possible and thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Julia Kennedy, Carver County Employment Counselor Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Victoria Lions are again holding their annual fundraising Golf Classic at Deer Run Golf Course on Monday, August 25th. Since the Victoria Lions charter in 1966, over $1.4 million have been raised and donated to local projects and humanitarian services. Some of the local recipients that have benefited from our fundraisers in the past year include the Boy Scout Troop, Girl Scout Troop, Victoria Fire Department, CAP Agency Food Shelf, Victoria Park and Recreation Department, youth programs and activities, Wounded Warriors, District 112 Lions Cross Country Meet, and many miscellaneous humanitarian donations. 100% of the funds raised are distributed directly to the causes that are deemed worthy. We are hoping that you can support our fundraising effort by becoming a sponsor of the tournament. There are three sponsorship opportunities available. Also, entering a golfing foursome in the tournament is a great way to spread goodwill among your customers. Please consider the opportunity to support the Victoria Lions in serving our community and other humanitarian needs. It will be greatly appreciated by those we serve. Thank you. Lion Kevin Rolf, Golf Chairman Victoria Lions Golf Committee\ Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I would like to thank all of you who attended my 90th birthday celebration on June 29th. I enjoyed seeing and visiting with so many people. It was a very special day for me. I especially thank my children and their families for hosting the party. I also appreciate all the cards, phone calls,l and other visits I had throughout my birthday week. I am very blessed to have so many close friends and family in my life. Thanks again to all of you. Marie "Snip" Steinberger Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Victoria Lions had a busy summer so far, helping with Concerts in the Park, the three-day Lions Softball Tournament Weekend, and the Blood Drive on the 28th which yielded 106 pints for the American Red Cross. Looking ahead, the Lions will be helping out with Volksfest August 15th and 16th, plus the Annual Victoria Lions Golf Tournament which will be held at Deer Run on August 28th. We still have room for more foursomes if you want to play. Contact a Victoria Lion. Lion Tom Schwartz, President Victoria Lions Club
To the Editor: Hey, Sue. You do a good job of hiding the fishhook. I think I've found it on page 24 in the center of the drum. Thanks for the wonderful paper. We love it. Keith and Linda Barcus Bemidji, Minnesota
