Letters to the Editor |
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Your front page story last month, “The Hat Lady,” brought back many memories of Virginia’s mother. Evelyn Hedtke went around taking census at our house and I enjoyed visiting with her. I also visited with her quite often at the Notermann’s store. Your traveling stories to North Dakota are very interesting. I also found the fishhook on page 19 in the Waterbrooke Fellowship ad. Thank you for a very enjoyable paper. Dorleen Schmieg LeCenter, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Gazette arrived today in Mesa! Tuesday, November 10th. Thank you. Your story regarding your trip to see your daughter and her family in North Dakota was lovely and I had a couple of tears ... of happiness ... for all of you. Thank you. Mary and John Ramseth Mesa, Arizona
To the Editor: Hope your Thanksgiving was great. December is a busy time for us. First of all, the 1st anniversary of my brother Jerome Meuwissen’s sudden death on December 3rd. Remember him in a prayer. Then many family members with birthdays in December -- Greg on 12/1, Darlene on 12/3, Lily on 12/12, Mark on 12/17, Chris on 12/18, Brother Vince on 12/20, Patrick on 12/23, Gene on 12/23, and Dreux on 12/30. Happy birthday to all of you. Lastly, a Merry Christmas to you, Sue, and to your staff and everyone else. Your fishhook was found on page 19 on the Waterbrooke ad for the Thanksgiving service. Hope Father Conran is getting better. Ethel Schneider Shakopee, Minnesota
To the Editor: You dassen’t go fishing until you rake those leaves!! Ach, run the lawnmower over them. Ach, yeah, den you can go fishing, ya fer sure, ach ya. Page 19 in your November Gazette has a lot of leaves to mow up in that Waterbrooke ad. Ach, schmart aleck hides the hook in dem leaves, ach! Hard to believe Santa’s on his way in a few weeks. I got my fiber optic Santa sitting out since November. It even resembles Rosie Claus, my mom, who always used to go all over town. She had regular “clients.” She would pop in the door and the grandkids would go bananas. Mom started at her Rosie Claus gig in the early 1960’s. Made her own suit out of a men’s pajama pattern. The whiskers she got at a costume store in Minneapolis. I imagine she got the strap with jingle bells there also. Her last gig was Christmas 1989. In September 1990 she was found with lung and bone cancer. February 1991 Mom passed on. Before that my Grandma Meuwissen was one year at the Friendship Manor Care Center. She couldn’t talk anymore but she knew what was being said. One could only communicate by a squeeze of the hand. When Merry Christmas was said in German to Grandma, a tear came out of her eye. It was Christmas 1982. She died a month later, in January 1983, at age 91. Freuliche Weihnachten. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: There is a Tae Kwon Do group that meets at the Victoria Recreation Center. I think people might be interested in seeing pictures and hearing more about the program. Thanks. Lori Tuomala Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Gazette came today and I read it all already. You sure can write a good paper. From your pictures of Tioga, it looks like you had a fun trip, and all by yourself. You are brave. Love, Mom Ghent, Minnesota
To the Editor: Please help save lives by printing the enclosed article on radon for Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Most people have no idea if they are living with this silent killer or not. Radon-induced lung cancer takes the lives of up to 25,000 people each year. You can make a difference. Thank you. Gloria Linnertz Waterloo, Illinois
