To the Editor: Those grandkids of yours are growing up way too fast. What fun you have. We enjoyed all the pictures of the KleinBank girls in the November issue of the Gazette and so nice they were remembered and appreciated. Also, loved seeing the older pictures in your “Remember When” column. Charlie Johnson looked so young. The fishhook may be in the ad for Waterbrooke Fellowship. It was large but sure looked like it. I will say that it is! Are you making the turkey for Thanksgiving or are you traveling to see the kids? Have a great holiday. Loretta Kocka and hubby Dave Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Could you please run our ad again in the December issue of the Gazette? We had a good response to the November ad. Thank you. Jeanne Arnst, Organic Disposal Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Thank you for the nice write-up about the history of our family’s land. You are talented. It’s amazing how you got those little photographs from me so big and clear, especially the ones with my mom and the cows and the ‘35 Ford with the team of horses and the barn. You can even see my dad at the front of the horses, hitching them up. We had that car quite a while. Sometimes I got to ride on the fender down to our lakeshore on Victoria [Stieger]. I would jump off to open the gate, shoo the cows away if they were there, then close the gate and jump back on the fender. Can’t do that with any of the later cars, or stand on the running board. Been going down Memory Lane since I talked with you. Usually doesn’t happen except at Christmas time with the smell of tangerines and evergreens. Thanks again. Virginia Stowe Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I’d like everyone to remember our new neighbor this holiday season -- Fresh Seasons. I hope all Victoria residents are shopping this wonderful new store with hands down the most courteous staff I have ever seen and the best produce within 20 miles. And there isn’t enough room to talk about all the times they have extended their helping hand to our community. I, along with many others, am so thankful they are here. As they obviously have committed to us, I hope all will commit to them. Be a good neighbor this holiday season and always. Shop local. Lois Plocher Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I’ve recently moved to Victoria (Well, maybe longer ago than recently. It’s been a few years) and recently retired (Well, ditto). I’ve decided to get a little more involved locally so I’ve volunteered to volunteer at both the Carver Park Reserve and the Arboretum. For the past few years I’ve walked extensively in both of these local treasures. They are two of the best outdoor experiences in the entire state and, as Victoria residents, we are lucky to have them both so close by. In a former life, in a former state, I spent a few years writing a column for the Seattle Times and recently (ditto the ditto), I’ve written a novel (You can read a few reviews on Amazon.com. Go there and search on “The Eden Proposition”), so I guess you could say I’m currently (pretending to be) a writer of sorts. Today while walking in the Reserve, I thought it might be fun to combine these two interests and do a little writing about the Reserve and the Arboretum. I like your paper a lot, especially your personal enthusiasm that comes through loud and clear. (And, in a former life, I was also a vice-president at the Seattle Times for many years, which might qualify me to have an opinion on your newspaper. Might not too). Anyway, any interest in having me write for you an occasional column on the beauties and goings-on at the parks? I’ve attached a possible example that I just jotted down, unreviewed and unedited, so probably some mistakes, but might give you an idea of my (pretend) skills. I would need no compensation for this. It’s just something I’d like to do. If interested, how about meeting for coffee sometime? Thanks for your time and, again, you have a terrific paper. Kurt Dahl Victoria, Minnesota
