To the Editor: Hi, Sue. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage Victoria residents and all your readers to support our Victoria merchants this holiday season and “Buy Local, Go Local, Think Local First.” We want to keep our dollars in Victoria and embrace what makes our community unique. Let’s build on our strong close-knit community and stay connected to our neighbors and friends while shopping. Local businesses are central to the sense of place and character of Victoria and they support local teams, events, schools, and charities. Our local merchants foster job creation in Victoria, positively impact our tax base, and encourage local entrepreneurship. Let’s help ensure their survival through our patronage. This Thanksgiving and Christmas, make a new habit. “Think Local First.” Susan and Tom Strigel Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am trying to access various news items in the Headlines and Bylines section of your online Gazette. Are there supposed to be links to the different articles? Thanks. Nancy Anderson EDITOR’S NOTE: There are many links and clicks on my website, I do not put the entire paper edition of the Gazette online.
To the Editor: Hartman Tree Farm would like to thank our community, friends, and families for supporting our families over the last 38 years. We are always happy to support the community in any way we can. This economy has greatly impacted our business like many others. Having to reduce staff to cut expenses is very hard when your loyal employees have been with you for years. They are your family and friends. So the more the community can support one another, the stronger we all will become to beat this struggling economy. By supporting your local businesses and keeping them strong, this country will be back -- one community at a time. We are all here for you. Please keep it local. We love to see you. Happy holidays. Jeff Hartman Hartman Tree Farm Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am writing to thank Dale and Janet Riley for taking the risk of establishing their Fresh Seasons Market in Victoria. It has become my sole source for groceries, bakery goods, deli items, small gifts and greeting cards, and I couldn’t be happier. I read with interest in your last Gazette their invitation for more of us in Victoria and our neighboring communities to make Fresh Seasons our main grocery store. I have shopped exclusively at Fresh Seasons for many months but decided to do a month over month analysis of our grocery expenditures comparing October 2008 and October 2009. A year ago I shopped stores in Chanhassen and Chaska and spent $1,035 in total grocery bills for the month of October. This year, shopping exclusively at Fresh Seasons, I spent $1,017 on groceries. I am spending no more being faithful to the local grocer than I did shopping around before. Now, add in the savings of travel time and gas plus the convenience of having the store so close by and it becomes clear to me that Fresh Seasons is the more economical choice. I appreciate the freshness of the produce, the variety in the deli, the selection in the meat market, and the choices in the center aisles. However, most importantly, I appreciate the service I receive, the friendliness of the staff, and the small town feel of the welcome I receive when I shop there. I believe in shopping local and nothing pleases me more than buying at my local Fresh Seasons store. Sharon MacDonald Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Here’s to my hometown grocery store. Thanks, Fresh Seasons, for polska kielbasa (and bread, milk, and cheese), for french silk pie (and light bulbs, paper towels, and cat food), and for goulash from the deli (and potatoes, ground beef, and butter). Another great reason to come to downtown Victoria. See ya there. Tom Bright Victoria, Minnesota
