Finding the Sheriff’s Office. If you are a resident of Victoria and you are called to be at the Government Center in Chaska for whatever reason -- paying property taxes, for example, or looking to take a picture of the Carver County Sheriff before he leaves office -- there are many ways to locate your destination in the large, sprawling maize of rooms, doors, hallways, and stairs. You can stop at the office closest to the first door you walk in from one of the parking lots in the area and ask for directions. People behind the desks are very helpful, so you might get a pencil-drawn map directing you to the location. Or you can walk for miles, even through a skyway, until your directional instincts are totally wiped out and then wait for someone to tell you where you are. Or you can happen upon someone who will walk you through the hallways, up the stairs, through double and triple doors, down the stairs, and directly to the spot on the penciled map. All three experiences were part of my finding the Sheriff’s Office last week and, of course, I had my camera. Thank you, Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik, for your personal smiling guidance. And hello, Carver County Commissioner Tom Workman. Good to see you both. ~Editor Sue
Lo, How a Rose e’er Blooming. With our wild weather extremes, diving from 69 degrees right down into a snowstorm, it has played out beautifully in front of the church. It’s something that doesn’t come along every day, or every year for that matter. As I was walking into church this afternoon (November 17th), I noticed that the roses are blooming as snow surrounds the Ave Maria. And lo and behold, I started humming, “Lo, how a rose e’er blooming ... It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter, when half spent was the night ...” They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I captured the moment for you. The only camera I had at my disposal, though, uses an autofocus so the image is not as sharp as reality beholds. Soooo, if you get a chance, you may want to swing by with your camera and capture another beautiful moment. Julie Schmieg, Ministry Support Services St. Victoria Catholic Church Victoria, Minnesota
In the Patch. This is Brendan Earsley, our favorite pumpkin in the patch. He lives here in Victoria on Field Creek Circle and is 5 months old as of the first week in November. He had a big time on his first Halloween. Thought you would enjoy this for the Gazette. Kristine and Travis Earsley Victoria, Minnesota
