Public Works Mr. Sheehan said project goals with the new Public Works Building include being a good neighbor, providing efficient functionality, looking toward future expansion, using appropriate materials that are durable and resistant to corrosion and yet having "a nice front." He said of the 94-acre parcel, "It's rural and beautiful. We want to preserve as many options as possible down the road. We envision possible commercial zoning at the intersection of County Roads 43 and 10, perhaps medium density residential around the pond area, and so we chose the southeast end for the Public Works site." Size of the P.W. parcel is roughly 10 acres. "Our design maximizes potential yard space," he said. "There will be considerable cost to access County Road 10. The access aligns with an existing road across #10. The building is just under 22,000 square feet but it can go from 20,000 to 40,000 to 60,000 square feet." He pointed out much yard space for snow storage. Square footage of the current P.W. Building on Stieger Lake Lane is 9,000 square feet, plus there is a trailer, small salt shed, and a two-car garage. Size of the current P.W. property is 1.6 acres. In consideration of the noise generated by Public Works equipment, especially the backing up beep beeps, Councilmember Tom Strigel asked, "How many residents live on Poppitz Lake and how far are they from the lake?" Replied Mr. Sheehan, "About six or seven residents, and Public Works is about 600 to 700 feet away from the lake." Sketches of the exterior showed four dormers with windows that would let in northern light without glare, and would break up the box building look. Said Mr. Uram, "I'm personally looking for something rather subdued, but it is going to be a big building sitting out there." Asked Mayor Thun, "When do you see it being occupied, if the council keeps focused?" Replied Mr. Sheehan, "In February of 2014 for City Offices. The Public Works facility takes slightly longer." Concluded Mr. Uram, "This is the first of several meetings we're going to have. Based on what I know today, it's a tight process." Mayor Thun said she is looking forward to the December 10th council meeting when she will find out how much it's all going to cost. "We obviously don't have enough money right now," she said. "I'd like to know what the interest rate is going to be."
