My sister Nancy said she brought a dinner of lutefisk, melted butter, and mashed potatoes to Dad a couple weeks ago and he loved it. The place had ketchup on hand and so he was a happy dad. I haven't picked up a package of lutefisk yet this season. Maybe this week. In past years we've enjoyed Lutefisk Dinner at the Minneapolis campus of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, but it's always scheduled for the same evening as the Christmas Party of the Victoria Lions. They're each always held on the first Friday in December. I don't want to make dinner comparisons nor make anybody feel bad, but I can tell you what's on the menu at Mount Olivet, in addition to the best lutefisk: Swedish meatballs, rutabagas, boiled potatoes, pickled beets, lefse, limpa rye bread, and rice pudding with lingon berries, not to mention coffee and cookies. When I reached into the minnow bucket this time, I pulled out Linda Erickson of Chaska, also known as Rockfest Momma, who found the fishhook wrapped around the "dining" tag on page 14 in the November issue of the Gazette. Congratulations, Linda. Your $10 prize will soon be among your Christmas cards. There's another fishhook hidden in this packed issue of the Christmas/December issue of the Gazette. If you find it and want to be included in next month's drawing, email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com or drop a line to P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 telling of its location and sinker in the mail. In the meantime, may lutefisk smell up our homes and satisfy our seasonal craving. |
