Love in a Dog’s World continued

Mitch Boos of Chanhassen loves Abby, his 10-year old Lab/German Shepherd mix, because “she is a great companion, a good buddy.  She’s likes to hang out and stays close by,” he said.  Mitch brings Abby out to the Victoria Dog Park about two to three times per week and normally hangs out here for about a half hour.  “I usually walk the perimeter with her at least once,” he said.  “I like this dog park because it’s totally fenced in.  I like the hilly part and it has some woods that she can get into.”  Mitch mentioned that the dog park in Minnewashta has an opening that Abby has found -- it’s not totally fenced in -- and so he learned to stay away from there.  “But I also visit a small park in Eden Prairie off  Highway 212,” he said.  “It depends on which direction I’m going, but I prefer Victoria.”

Leticia Leone of Minnetonka loves Sam, her 7-year old dog who is part New Foundland and part Flatcoat Retriever, and can talk about him endlessly.   “Sam is a stray,” she said.  “ I rescued him about five years ago.  He’s got a coat like rabbit fur and isn’t as tall as a Newfie, but he’s got a Newfie personality.  I started taking him to nursing homes in the area and they applaud him.  It just changes the residents and they light up.  Sam hangs onto their every word.”  Leticia has more to say about Sam.  “He so loyal to me and so happy to see me no matter what.  He gives unconditional love.  He keeps me young.  He keeps me off the couch.  I’d hate to be out in the cold in the winter if I didn’t have him.  I’m single so I’m lucky to have him.  He’s a doll.”  Leticia visits the Victoria Dog Park every day.  “I love it.  It’s 27 acres fenced!  There is so much run room.  Other dog parks are smaller so there can be personality issues.  It’s also wonderful exercise for me.  It’s much better than a treadmill.  It’s a place to meet people.  We’re family.  It’s like going to the park with your toddler.  I’ve made lifelong friends because of Sam.”
