Is it on your calendar? The Victoria Ice Fishing Contest is scheduled for Sunday, February 7th, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. It's always a most interesting experience for me, since I'm not fond of the ice and the cold, but I always go and I always have a good time. The whole event intrigues me. That people gather up all the gear necessary to go fishing in a Minnesota winter, bundle up themselves so they don't freeze to death, and then trek to the lake. All of it baffles me. And so I go and look about and marvel at the unusual effort and personalities. Sometimes they even catch a fish.

Mainly I'm interested in the fishhook, the one I hide in the Gazette each month. In January I wrapped it around the chef's hair and hat on page 24. And when I reached into the minnow bucket, brimming with correct entries for this monthly drawing, I brought up Marcy Wickenhauser of Cologne. Congratulations, Marcy. The $10 prize money will be on its way to you shortly.
