New Year's Day. Tuesday, January 1st. It is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian Calendar as well as the Julian Calendar used in the Roman Empire since 45 B.C. The Gregorian Calendar of 1582 was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII to include leap days. The Julian Calendar had been introduced by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C. A Julian year averaged 365.25 days.

Epiphany. Sunday, January 6th. An epiphany is a sudden perception, enlightenment, or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something. The Epiphany is when the Three Kings visited the Holy Family and saw God in His Son as the divinely human Baby Jesus.

Martin Luther King Day. Monday, January 21st. An American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. to celebrate the life and achievements of the influential civil rights hero. He was born on January 15th, 1929, and assassinated on April 4th, 1968.

Full Moon. Monday, January 21st. The moon is fully illuminated as seen from earth. At Full Moon, the moon and sun are on a line with earth in between, as though the moon and sun are sitting on either end of a seesaw.
