SHORTER VICTORIA SCOOP FROM JUNE ANN MAHNKE CONTINUES AS P.W. DIRECTOR *Field House & Park and Rec Director Ann Mahnke will continue as Interim Public Works Director for the City of Victoria through December 31st, 2009. For this additional work, she will be compensated an additional one-time grant of 40 hours of vacation. *Mary Jo Watson of CenterPoint Energy attended the June 8th city council meeting to award the Victoria Fire Department a $2,000 Community Partnership Grant that will be used with a 50% matching grant to purchase a portable generator with light tower. *The 2009 Victoria Concert in the Park Series will feature performances by six different musicians, each signing a performance agreement with the City of Victoria. *Council accepted the Amended and Restated ICMA-RC Deferred Compensation Plan for city employees. The Plan is a supplemental retirement savings program that allows the employee to make voluntary contributions on a pre-tax basis. Federal and, in most cases, state income taxes are deferred until the employee withdraws the assets, usually during retirement when they may be in a lower tax bracket. *On June 8th Council accepted donations totalling $1,975: $100 from KleinBank for T-Ball/Coach Pitch; $200 from KleinBank for 2009 Concerts in the Park; $125 from Kid Talk for T-Ball; $350 from the Victoria Lions for 2009 Concerts in the Park; $500 from MN Valley Electric for 2009 Concerts in the Park; $150 from Floyd’s for the 2009 Concerts in the Park; $50 from LeRoy and RaNaye Miller for the Victoria Fire Department; and $500 from an anonymous donor for the MN Valley Community Band’s performance at the Victoria Volksfest. *Various liquor licenses were approved for School of the Wise, Cuzzy’s Victoria House, Deer Run Golf Club, Floyd’s, Victoria Bar and Grill, Hi-5 Liquors, Victoria Lions Club, Victoria Vics Baseball Club, St. Victoria’s Sunset Fest. *The Southwest Metro Chamber of Commerce received approval to conduct a raffle and have bingo games at the Victoria Volksfest on August 29th. *Miracles of Mitch Foundation received approval to conduct a raffle for their annual fundraising event at Deer Run on July 27th. *Victoria will participate in a Regional Safety Group Initiative sponsored by the League of MN Cities Insurance Trust, as part of a consortium of eight cities in Carver County. The cities receive safety training session for their employees. Cost is $900. *Waterbrooke Fellowship received an additional extension to construct a parking lot on their campus at Lake Wasserman. *Wendy Schlueter has been hired as a playground leader to run the playground programs and kids club for the Field House and Parks and Rec Department. *Mark and Susan Solem of Re/MAX A-1 Excellence donated $200 to the 2009 Concerts in the Park. *The Southwest Metro Chamber of Commerce received a temporary noise permit for the Victoria Volksfest from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on August 29th. *Council approved a resolution that describes access easements and permits the city to lease certain areas of the Field House property to School District 112. The agreement is with the Economic Development Authority of Victoria as landlord. Members of the EDA are members of the Victoria City Council. *Council adopted a rotating schedule to review and issue RFP’s for consultants who provide banking, auditing, engineering, and legal services for the City of Victoria. *Councilmember Tom O’Connor asked for an update on consideration of a Social Host Ordinance. Don Uram said that Carver County is going to keep an eye on how it works in Scott County. |
