by Sue Orsen How often do you see larger than life characters in downtown Victoria? Back in the mid 1960’s, it was Kris the Wonder Giant who walked the streets of Victoria, according to the personal testimony of Mike Wartman, former resident of Victoria and long standing columnist for the Victoria Gazette. That Wonder Giant was a spokes-man for white ready-sliced Wonder Bread. |
On Tuesday, June 23th, 2009, after more than a 40-year absence, larger than life characters returned to downtown Victoria. Hundreds of people flocked to the First Annual Kids Day sponsored entirely by Fresh Seasons Market, the store that has assumed a larger than normal presence and generosity to the community since its grand opening three months ago. |
In addition to costume characters, the store brought in the Teddy Bear Band, the Victoria Fire Department, the Lowry Nature Center, food vendors and activities for kids such as Minnow Races, also treats at every corner and One Dollar Hotdog Meals. It was an all-afternoon event with animation and enterprise indoors and out. |
Fresh Seasons also brings new life to the community in smaller ways, behind the scenes with little fanfare but much appreciation. For example, the store recently gave $200 to the Victoria Lions to pay for candy in the annual Lions Easter Egg Hunt and provided hotdogs and buns for the annual Jane Quammen Walk. |
Thank you, Fresh Seasons, for being larger than life in the Victoria community. |
