The Scoop

at City Hall

To the Editor:

My grandmother told me a long time ago, “God teaches us to be patient when we garden.  We learn that, with time, the true beauty of our work is revealed to us.”

No, Sue, I would not plant a Japanese Lilac Tree anywhere near your Ave Maria at church.  The magnolia bush that I planted will grow 10 to 12 feet tall and wide.  Give it some time to grow.  Magnolias are always planted small but will grow quickly after a year or two.

Then my grandmother would say, “Little flower, show thy power.  Blessed are Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.”  Give it some time, Sue.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Thank you, good gardener.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  My name is Rachel Anderson and I am one of the troop leaders for a just completed 3rd grade Brownie troop at Victoria Elementary School.

I’d like to share with you the awesome service project that they just completed at the end of the school year.  They planted two large garden plots at the school for the whole community to enjoy.  Attached is the write-up with some photos of them completing their project.  The girls in the  troop are all Victoria residents with the exception of one girl who lives in Chanhassen.  Thank you.

To the Editor:

I didn’t get to write last month, but it was a very nice story about your Ave Maria.  Hope to see it someday.  And on page 38 was the 1983 class picture.  Father Conran was a handsome young man and still is.  Also, congratulations on new baby Mia.  Found the fishhook in the June bug.

My following relatives have birthdays in July -- son Jim on the 7th, nephew Robert on the 15th, brother Jim on the 21st, niece Kay on the 24th, niece Monain on the 24th, sister Mary Ann on the 26th, and sister in law Ann on the 28th.  Hope they all will have a great day ...

         Oftentimes when I’m in need

         Of just a little smile,

I search a memory or two

And think of you a while,

And you would really be surprised

         How thoughts of you create

The nicest feelings in my heart

         That I appreciate.

So you can see how much it means

         To leave my cares behind

         By gathering these memories

That keep you on my mind.

To the Editor:

As the school year ends and summer begins, it is important to remind your children about Carver County’s curfew ordinance.  All children under 18 years of age must be off the streets by the following times, based on their age and the day of the week:

Younger than 12:  Home by 9 p.m. Sun. thru Thurs., home by 10 Fri. & Sat.

Age 12-13:  Home by 10 p.m. Sun. thru. Thurs., home by 11 Fri. & Sat.

Age 15-17:  Home by 11 p.m. Sun. thru Thurs., home by midnight Fri. & Sat.

If a juvenile is caught out after hours by police, they will be charged with a petty offense punishable by a maximum fine of $100.
