The Victoria GAZETTE |
To the Editor: As the insurance agent for Gary Corwin, who resides next to the sewer project on Smithtown Road in Victoria, I just want to thank Kim Roden for standing up for these homeowners. I know that Gary and his family have felt abandoned during this ordeal and, if nothing else, her support must mean a lot to him and his family. Kim summed up the situation very well in the June issue of the Gazette. If this were my home, I would certainly want my City Council to care more about my plight. Thank you, Kim, for caring and standing up for your constituents. Terry Roeser Excelsior, Minnesota
To the Editor: My husband Harvey lived in Victoria when he was younger and my brother gets this paper, so we’d like to try it. He knew the people in last month’s Gazette so could you send us that one, too? If need be, I can pay you for it. Thank you. I came from Chaska. Elaine Drew Delano, Minnesota
To the Editor: Those are lovely arboretum photos on your website. I really enjoyed them. Thanks for the photos in the Gazette as well. Have a good weekend. Barb DeGroot MN Landscape Arboretum Chanhassen, Minnesota
To the Editor: Found the fishhook as part of the June bug in the Ford ad on page 26. You certainly are clever in finding hiding places. There are times I go through the paper two or three times to find the fishhook. Barbara Johnson Sacred Heart, Minnesota
To the Editor: I was in Fresh Seasons one day when Dale Riley asked me if I would like a job. Joke, since last fall I told him I would stand around and say stuff to people if it would be supportive to his business or be of help. So he asked me to this thing for grads this spring and I did. Felt it was my part for our town to do something for Dale as he was part of my speaking events in the past when I did some work for Lund’s, Byerly’s, Rainbow, the Dairy Association, and Deli people. This was my opportunity to serve and I said, “Yes.” As a professional speaker in motivation, humor, and customer service, I feel a loyalty to Fresh Seasons and wanted to do my part, therefore I was honored to be asked. Little did I know how long the day would be, even though I thought I knew. It was a real eye opener. How difficult could it be to greet customers, create an awareness of graduation trays, graduation cakes, and fruit platters for one day? Wearing a graduation robe, carrying a diploma, and a pocketful of stars, I strolled the aisles and spoke to everyone that came in, commented on their choices, asked about their families and their own graduations, and stood around in a welcoming fashion from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7th. The customers were toting children, examining fruit, seeking meat cuts, and seemed happy to shop. Unlike in dimly lit stores with aisles of piles, the mood was good. I asked folks, “Are you a graduate?” That was my opening line. Most said, “Yes,” Some said, “Preschool.” Some said, “Drifted away.” Some said, “I have four degrees.” But all were pleased to receive a gold star for being a good shopper. As the day wore on, my admiration for the work staff at Fresh Seasons -- who were sandwich making, cake serving, bread sorting, good cheering, and darting from deli to fruit to cakes to checkout to phones -- increased. I became aware of their dedication to the grocery business. By 12:30, only two hours into my “job,” I was beat. At 4 o’clock I asked for a stool, and then left at 6:00. My goal was to pay it forward to these amazing folks who built a store in our town. In the meantime, I will keep speaking, coaching, and writing. It’s easier on the feet. Thank you, Fresh Seasons.
