Ben Wartman. The University of St. Thomas baseball team just won the NCAA-Division 3 National Championship. Ben is on the team and was the starting catcher. I am going to forward to you an article and picture of Ben from the St. Thomas website. I don’t know if you use stuff like this or have space for it in the Gazette, but I thought it would be fun, considering Ben’s baseball ties to Victoria ... relatives, you know. The photo is by Mike Ekern. Mike Wartman Prior Lake, Minnesota
EDITOR’S NOTE: Hi, Mike, “Former Resident of Victoria.” Say hello to Jodene for me. Readers might know that Julianne and the late Eugene “Euch” Wartman of Victoria are Ben’s grandparents.

Sand Storm in Iraq. I’m sending a tree photo that was taken at 12 noon on Friday, May 8th. We have dust storms like this once or twice a week. This one lasted two days. Take a blinding Minnesota blizzard, replace the snow with sand, and that is a dust storm. The second photo is of the foyer of the Palace that I work in, taken at about the same time. We end up breathing this for a couple of days and put wet cloths over our face. Colonel Jim Hays, Resident of Victoria, Minnesota, stationed in Iraq.
Advancing to State. Anne Gaslin of Eden Prairie chips onto the green for Holy Family on the way to their second straight trip to the State Golf Championship. Matt Makis of Shakopee serves in his number one doubles match as he and the rest of the Holy Family team advances to the State Tennis Meet. Patrick R.
