The Scoop at City Hall |
To the Editor: The kids are out of school and the BBQ grill is going full speed along with the lawn mower and all the swim gear and fishing equipment and bug spray and tanning stuff. No matter what I do, I get sunburnt even if I sit in the shade. Last summer at the River City Days Parade here in Chaska, I was blistered on my forearms between the wrists and elbows, red and blistered like diaper rash. During the 150th Anniversary of Chaska Parade, I sat in the shade against the apartment facade and a patio floor above me, but with 102-degree heat index, I was barbecued in the neck. In the shade I sat and was sunburnt anyway. I was told it’s due to my light complexion. I never had freckles either. My brother Greg is brown haired as well and he had freckles until he was 19. You could play dot to dot on his face. The two dads on page 31 in the May issue of the Gazette better hustle to the Emergency Room and get a tetanus shot for Fred. Yabba, dabba, ouch! My dad doesn’t eat anything that swims. Neither do I, except cod because it has no fishy taste. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Have you noticed how Sophie will sometimes just look off into space and start smiling or laughing, or sometimes she will be sleeping and just start smiling? I heard today that when a baby is looking at nothing and starts smiling, it is because her guardian angel is smiling at her. And when she smiles in her sleep, it is because her angel is talking to her. I love that thought. Nick mentioned you were coming to our house today for a visit. I know Sophie will enjoy seeing her Grandma Sue. How is your house remodel coming along? Jen Orsen Brooklyn Park, Minnesota
To the Editor: A cat and her four kittens came face to face with a large German Shepherd. The cat barked loudly and scared the dog away. She then said to her kittens, “Now you see how important it is to learn a second language.” Found your fishhook on the elbow of Fred Flintsone on page 31. Len Girtz Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Last week I had a brief talk over the phone with Lila Heutmaker, who is one of the siblings of Art and Eleanor Heutmacher. They owned the property where the Carver Park boat ramp and fishing pier is today. I asked her if she would be interested in telling her story for the Gazette and she seemed interested. Lila Heutmaker’s family ran the beach and rented boats and motors to visitors to the area. They also ran a small farm on the property. She talked of tornadoes and railroad hobos and more. I think it would be a great story for the paper. Terry Hartman, Hartman Communities Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: The SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce is seeking great photos of Victoria, Chaska, Chanhassen, and Carver. Photos of community, businesses, landscapes, distinctive landmarks and events and celebrations are being sought and will be considered for inclusion in printed and electronic Chamber publications and website. Digital photos only. Please submit to kelly@swmetrochamber.com. Deb McMillan, President SW Metro Chamber of Commerce
To the Editor: Hi. This is my first time trying to find the fishhook and I have to tell you it was so much fun. I think the hook is on page 6 in your May issue, in the retaining wall bottom right above the lawn chair in the Timberwall ad. I will forever be a fishhook finder now. My husband Paul and I read this wonderful paper front to back. Enjoy the spring. Pat Stacken Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: It sure is nice that Victoria has a Fresh Seasons Market. Will have to check it out when we drive through. The pictures really look great. As I kept paging through the Gazette, I found the fishhook on the arm of Fred Flintsone in the Bryan Rock ad. Good hiding. Keep up the good job that you’re so good at. Marie Otten Waconia, Minnesota
