The Scoop at City Hall |
To the Editor: Enjoyed your editorial last month on the royal wedding very much. My invitation got lost in the mail, evidently. These things happen. I sent Kate a note and told her to forget about me, and that Willy was a prince of a guy and she should just go on with her life. I didn't hear back so it might have been intercepted by a varlet or knave along the way. It's papers like the Victoria Gazette that ensure the United States will always be strong and free, and I applaud you for your hard work. Best to you. Slim Randles Albuquerque, New Mexico
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. My name is Barb Farrell. You may remember me and my brother Joe Diethelm when we had the German band, Alpenrose. I just wanted you to know how neat the article is about my dad's family in the May issue of the Gazette, and especially about Grandma Ida Diethelm. I certainly never knew all of Grandma's history. Where can I get copies of the Gazette? News stands in town anywhere? Let me know. Thank you. I'd like to pick up some Gazettes for my mom and siblings. Thanks again. Barb Farrell Shakopee, Minnesota
To the Editor: Best regards to you and the family. I have been enjoying your paper, thanks to Carol Kelzer, Sioux City, Iowa. How do you keep up with all your information? You do an A+ job, month after month. Anyway, I just want to inform you that on July 1st, I will be at the same address but in a two-bedroom apartment because Sr. Donna Williams is moving here from Chicago and we plan to share our home, so I have a new apartment number in the same building. May our God bless this venture. Enjoy the beauties of spring, your travels, and, above all, your wonderful family. Keep me in your prayers, too. God's goodness in all things. Love and gratitude, Sr. Mary Nick Eiden Eden Prairie, Minnesota
EDITOR'S NOTE: Hi, Sister Mary Nick. Allan tells me that your nephew, Troy Eiden, did all of the fancy cabinetry at the new Wayzata Wine and Spirts.
To the Editor: Julie Kiefer of Victoria suggested I contact you to share a news item. I am working with Julie to publicize the Glocal Mission Gathering, a series of ELCA gatherings to be held this year, bu it's the only one be held in Minnesota. Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior is hosting the event. We have a number of members from Victoria, and our members will learn how to incorporate mission into their everyday lives, right here in their own communities. Glocal is the intersection of global mission and local mission. This story is especially timely considering the catastrophic events taking place around the world and in our very own backyard. Maria Reitan Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Excelsior, Minnesota
EDITOR'S NOTE: Thank you, Maria and Julie, for thinking of the Gazette. Some information has to be placed as paid-for advertising because that's what it is, advertising for an upcoming event. Sorry.
To the Editor: Many friends in our newspaper community have lost their homes in the Joplin, Missouri, tornado. Police say there are at least 116 fatalities and that number is likely to rise. The Joplin Globe newspaper reports that its homeless employees have shown up to work to report on the disaster. The homes of at least 25 Joplin Globe employees were heavily damaged or destroyed. The Missouri Press Association has established a disaster fund within the Missouri Press Foundation to assist them with tax-deductible donations. Thank you for your consideration.
