GAZETTE

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Just arrived home Monday afternoon from attending a wedding in Oklahoma.  As we were traveling on Sunday, we ran into a bad thunderstorm and had to stop because of hail.  We were totally oblivious of the tornado warning in Joplin, Missouri.

After the hail stopped we went on our way only to find a terrible car accident a few miles on.  Cars were everywhere.  Because we were engrossed in that, we missed our turn onto Hwy  71 and had to stop to ask how to get back onto it.

People were holding up in the gas station only to tell us a tornado just went through Joplin.  Who knows, if we had not stopped for the hail where we would have ended up.  I see it as only God's protection.

The "car accident" was the result of the tornado.  Cars were strewn across the highway and up against the overpass.  An 18-wheeler had been flipped down off the bridge onto the road below.

I'm glad to be safe and sound at home.

To the Editor:

Heartfelt thanks are extended to each and every one of you who have helped our family throughout this difficult time.  The memories of these days will carry us throughout the challenging times ahead.  The countless thoughts, prayers, and generosities were the timely support that we have needed.  You have lifted us up and have truly demonstrated the meaning of love.

And thanks to those who supported Kenny throughout his journey, and especially those who laughed with him along the way.  Laughter was the medicine that helped the most, and he loved you all.  It is our hope that his unique wisdom, profound courage, strength, and kindness will be a lasting inspiration.

To the Editor:

Any family or business would see a 6% revenue increase as a real boon.  Yet, as we passed the adjournment date of Monday, May 23rd, the Governor remained adamant on higher taxes to fuel a 15% increase in government spending.

As a fiscal conservative, I believe a 6% increase provides state government with the right amount of revenue necessary to fund needed programs and the services our citizens rely upon.  A $3 billion increase in revenue for our state's bottom line is enough.

If we go down the road of more government growth, we will simply continue the unsustainable spending that has led us to where we are today.  And then we'll have to do this same charade next year.  And the biennium after that.  And after that.  And on and on.  That's the reality of the tax-and-spend status quo.

The debate is about what Minnesota can afford today, tomorrow, and ten years from now.  I hope the Governor will recognize and act on the needs of our people.
