To the Editor: Indeed, I'm always think-in of the Gazette, the best of reporting local happenings, the only newspaper worthy of reading cover to cover About the photos I've sent you of granddaughter Kate, I have images of her mom Kathie's abilities at that age, of our daughter always being upsidedown and in mid air. The photos of Kate's positions and poses are something. Shared thoughts include words like "amazing, athletic, flexible, fit, agile, and nimble." My thoughts are, Tylenol. To the Editor: On May 22nd, 2011, a flock of blue herons was nesting on an island near North Mississippi Regional Park when a tornado tore through North Minneapolis, destroying the rookery. In the wake of the storm, dozens of the herons were dead, injured, or missing. Herons typically abandon nesting locations when disturbed. Some of the surviving members of the flock relocated to an island owned by Xcel Energy and adjacent to the Riverside Plant, and this year nesting activities have resumed. There are approximately 30 active nests in the new rookery. The media are invited to an event to recognize the remarkable survival instinct of this Minneapolis flock and to remember Raptor Resource Project Board President Rob MacIntyre, one of the two fatalities attributed to the tornado. Patti Nystuen, Xcel Energy Minneapolis, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I would love to invite you out to Waconia to get a peek at what is happening at the distillery. Bill Miller and I are hoping you have some time in the next couple of weeks to venture out to see if the distillery is something you are interested in sharing with readers of the Gazette. We have our website up and will be sending out our first monthly newsletter to our subscribers. It's been an exciting time and now that we have our building and our demo is moving full steam ahead, we would love to tell you our story, how we chose our name of "J. Carver Distillery," and details about our future plans within the Carver County community. Looking forward to hearing back from you. As always, thank you for all you do. To the Editor: Across the state, Minnesotans observed Memorial Day and honored those who died in military service to the nation. In remembrance and celebration of these individuals, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs sponsored events throughout Minnesota at the State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls and at the five Minnesota Veterans Homes in Fergus Falls, Hastings, Minneapolis, Silver Bay, and Luverne. Thank you to everyone who supported the programs and the veterans. Anna Long, MNDVA State of Minnesota
To the Editor: Recent rains have caused high water levels on lakes and streams throughout the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. As of Wednesday, May 21st, the water level on Lake Minnetonka was 930.33 feet which is an increase of 2.64 inches since Monday, May 19th. In response to the high lake level, MCWD is currently discharging water at the Gray's Bay Dam at a rate of 300 cubic feet per second to reduce flooding on Lake Minnetonka and Minnehaha Creek. Also, there is approximately 97 cubic feet per second of additional water flowing over the emergency spilling north of the Dam. During a high water declaration for Lake Minnetonka, watercraft operators must adhere to the minimum wake restrictions within 600 feet of shore and in other regulated areas. To the Editor: Thinking of you and wanting you to know how much happiness you're wished on this day and always. Sorry to be late with my "dues," for which I have enclosed a check for $25. Wonderful articles about your family. The fishhook last month is on page 38 in the Bike Mission photo. Ethel Schneider Shakopee, Minnesota
