To the Editor:

With temperatures finally returning to normal, door to door solicitors will be in our area again soon.  Solicitors offering asphalt services and magazine subscriptions, among other products and services, will be making the rounds and may well make their way to your front doorstep.

Better Business Bureau of MN and ND reminds people to stay alert and keep in mind that these sellers are venturing onto your home turf.  If you don't like how a given sales pitch is going, take one step back and close the door.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  My girl friend's second cousin (Gerlinde Palmy from Hilpoltstein, Germany) is visiting us for three weeks.  We're learning a lot about her country and she of ours.  She even got to talk some German with my brother Willy from Victoria.  I mentioned the Gazette's fishhook to her.  She found it quickly in the bicycle wheel on page 38 in the May issue.  Would she be the one from the farthest distance to ever find the fishhook?  Have a good one.

To the Editor:

We had lunch in Victoria on May 21st and saw they were tearing down the house of Ruth Johnson.  This house was once owned by the Frank Notermann family of the Notermann Brothers Store, today known as the Notermann Building.

When we returned home there was a message on our answering machine telling us that we had won a million dollars.  It sounded suspicious so I looked it up on the internet.  It is a code used in Jamaica.  And there was a warning that people were trying to take advantage of folks, especially older folks.  So people shouldn't respond to it.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  My name is Mary Wallace and I live on Smithtown Terrace and I have read your front page life stories of people who have lived in Victoria for many years and enjoy them very much.

The reason for my email is that I have some wonderful neighbors who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 3rd, which I think is remarkable in itself.  But I thought they may be interesting candidates for your paper.

Tom and Jeannie Thompson have lived here since 1959 and I think they have a  very interesting family that they raised here on Smithtown Bay.  Back in the 1960's their children were in a ski club and would practice on the bay.  They did ski jumping, trick skis, and the slalom course.  Their one son went off to start Water Ski Show, Inc., where he coordinates water ski shows for Sea World, Cypress Gardens, and others.  I am attaching a link of his accomplishments.

Their daughter has a clothing design company in California, and their other son lives in Hawaii and was a navy pilot.

I love history and life stories and thought the Thompsons would be an interesting couple for you to write about.  I am also copying Lydia Holsten who is a close friend of Tom and Jeannie.  Thank you.

To the Editor:

I am wondering how to put an announcement in your paper about my daughter Stacie graduating from Minnesota State  University?  I know you regularly publish these sorts of things since Stacie has been listed many times for being on the Dean's List.  We are especially proud of Stacie's accomplishments and want to recognize her.

She is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders and has been accepted into grad school (Speech Language Pathology) at MSU, one of 22 grads out of well over 100 applicants.  She is graduating with high honors.  She started her own equine therapy business in New Germany this year, at the age of 21, serving mainly children with disabilities.

         Thank you.
