To the Editor:

Good morning, Sue.  I just wanted to let you know that we received the last two Victoria Gazettes.  We greatly appreciate you sending those here.  Some of the people in the office read through them while they are eating lunch.  You guys have a very cool community and I love those stories about the local people's lives.  It is fun to see tight knit communities like yours.  The Savannah story was really interesting, too.  I have always been curious about that part of the world.  Thanks again for sharing your paper with us.

To the Editor:

Many moons ago you and Al took us on a road trip to Minneota, Ghent, and environs of your home towns.  One of the stops was your folks' farm.  I remember being impressed by how they had expanded their acreage.  Also was impressed by the Belgian Rolly-Bolly game in the alley behind the bar.

In the manuscript I wrote (soon to be book, Stealing Watermelons), one of the main characters expands the acreage of his family farm.  Believe it or not, that scene was inspired by your folks and that road trip many years ago.

"They" say that even fiction has some roots in reality.  Imagine my surprise when reading the May issue of the Gazette when you itemized how your folks expanded the farm ... how many acres, when they bought them, and the dollars per acre.  Still inspiring.

         See you soon.

To the Editor:

I read "Look at Mom's Hands."  Your mother has a splendid record of sacrifice and to my mind matched by the industry and wisdom of your father.

This morning I received the enclosed 2015 Reagan Ranch Calendar and was thrilled with some of the quotations in the margin ... and thought this is something Sue could use for her usual quote column in the Gazette.  Am I right?

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Your are right, Fr. B.  Seems you are always right.  But President Reagan must take a back seat at this time to my friends Charles Chaput and Anthony Esolen, as you can see on page 5.

A local food program created to make fresh fruit and vegetables more affordable to Twin Cities families is expanding and having its grand opening at Crown of Glory Lutheran Church in Chaska on May 29th.

Fare for All Express, established in 2007 by Emergency Foodshelf Network, purchases fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats in bulk and passes on the savings to anyone who wants to stretch their food budget.

Launched in 2007, Fare for All Express served 5,000 households at nine locations,   In 2013. it grew to 24 locations.  The food distributions will be held one Thursday each month at Crown of Glory in 2014 including June 26th, July 31st, August 28th, September 25th, October 23rd, November 20th, and December 18th.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  On the weekend of May 17th much of Victoria was holding the annual city-wide garage sale.  It was a very chilly start Thursday and Friday mornings.  I almost took my winter boots, that I was selling, off the table and put them on.  However, it did warm up.  At least there was no rain.  However, what did put a damper on the sale for me was an incident.

One of the young neighbor girls brought over to our sale a bucket of golf balls that she and her dad had collected from all the not-so-straight balls that went flying all directions in Deer Run.  They had cleaned them up and she was to get the profit.

Between Friday night when we closing and early Saturday morning when I was opening, the golf balls disappeared.  Someone stole them, probably when I had gone back into the house for a cup of coffee or more change.

I am not interested in shaming anyone, but if the person who stole the golf balls would kindly return them to our house, I would be grateful -- not for myself, but for the young women who is out $75 to $100.  Surely you would want to make things right.
