It came across my fish line on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009. First there was a little tug and then a big yank. I reeled it in and read the message word for word, always interested in what’s crossing the wires, especially when it also pertains to what’s getting passed around my dining room table. Directly from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA): “An analysis of northern pike and walleye from Minnesota lakes has found an unexpected rise in mercury concentrations in these predator fish. The analysis shows that the fish-mercury concentration in the majority of lakes has been increasing since the mid 1990’s.” Their wire continues: “The analysis was based on tissues collected from fish from 845 Minnesota lakes. The finding is of concern because methylmercury, the form of mercury that contaminates fish, is toxic to humans and wildlife.” Going on: “The increase in fish mercury levels is not limited to Minnesota. Other scientists found a similar upward trend in mercury concentrations in coho and chinook salmon from Lake Ontario from 1999 through 2003.” Their final line is not new. “Mercury in fish can harm the health of the wildlife and the people who eat these fish.” So where’s the beef? I never understand why they zero in on the mercury in fish and simultaneously ignore the mercury that is placed intentionally as a “preservative” in children’s vaccinations. Mercury is toxic to humans no matter if it’s ingested or injected -- especially if it’s injected. If it’s pollution (poison) in fish, it’s also pollution (poison) in vaccinations. And who is “they,” anyway? Seems to me “they” is certainly trying to hide something, and it’s not a fishhook! Besides, hiding fishhooks is my job. Did you find it last time? It was hidden on page 8 in the February issue of the Gazette, in the eraser of the pencil in the Rodenz Accounting ad. Who was pulled from the minnow bucket this time? Hi, Shirley Andersen from Mound. How’s the jewelry business at V&S? Good, I hope. You win the $10 drawing and the bucks should arrive shortly on your doorstep. Congratulations. There’s another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette. If you find it, drop a line to Sue@VictoriaGazette.com or sinker in the mail to P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386. I don’t use any preservatives in this business so it’s not toxic to anyone -- unless you can’t live with the plain and simple truth. |
