ANOTHER TRAGIC LOSS FOR CITY OF VICTORIA

SR. PLANNER ERIN SMITH GOES TO CARVER

         In less than three months, the City of Victoria has lost three of its top city employees.  Senior Planner Erin Smith submitted her letter of resignation on February 12th, 2018.  Erin has also been serving as Victoria's Interim Community Development Director since Ben Landhauser resigned, effective January 2018.  City Manager Laurie Hokkanen resigned effective this past December 2017.

         "While it has been a pleasure to serve Victoria for close to three years as a volunteer member of the Planning Commission, and while I have tremendous respect for the sitting Planning Commission members, I no longer wish to be associated with the divisive culture that our City Council has created over the past year

 

PLAINTIFFS ET. AL. FILE COMPLAINT

LAWYERS BOARD DETERMINES NOT TO INVESTIGATE

         In a letter received from Mayor Funk and Councilmember Tom Gregory in late January 2018 about alleged conflict of interest of City Attorney Bob Vose, the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility replied, "After reviewing the documents you submitted, the Director has determined not to investigate your complaint.”

 

CITY OF VICTORIA SEEK ATTORNEY GENERAL OPINION

DOES MAYOR FUNK STILL HAVE CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

         Back on November 13th, 2017, the State of Minnesota Court of Appeals supported the 2016 Carver County District Court ruling that Councilmembers Jim Crowley and Tom Strigel need not be removed from office because of their violations of the Open Meeting Law.     Now the plaintiffs, sans Tom and Carolynn Funk, appealed to the MN Supreme Court.

         The League of MN Cities and the Association of MN Counties wnt to ensure that the Open Meeting Law is interpreted by “giving guidance to public officials who are attempting to comply with its requirements before they may be removed from their publicly elected offices.”

 

WAITING FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OPINION

BEFORE VOTING ON PAYMENT OF LEGAL FEES

         Stated City Attorney Bob Vose, “The Attorney General’s opinion is routinely followed.  There is no liability to a city if they follow the Attorney General’s opinion.”  The issue in Victoria:  Does Mayor Funk still have a conflict of interest?
