IT’S THE RASPBESRRIES! Congratulations to Victoria residents Nancy Tiran and Chaz Kleinsteuber, left, on their title of 2010 Raspberry Tourney Bocce Champions. They defeated Victoria residents Lori Wartgow and Gary Hicks, right, by a score of 15-10 in the finals of a 32-team bocce tournament on Saturday, October 9th. This tourney has been held annually since 1979 and hosted by Tommy and Marilee Hutton of Victoria. Tommy is originally from Hopkins, which is known as the Raspberry Capital. Since the late 1970’s, his family has hosted a block party that originally corresponded with the Hopkins Raspberry Festival Parade held each July. Each year guests of the party would play in a co-ed bocce tournament that started out as a small ‘just for fun’ tourney. It soon became the highlight of the gathering and has expanded over the years to the 32-team event it is today. Since moving from Hopkins to Victoria in the 1990’s, the Raspberry Bocce Tourney has also moved from a summer to a fall event. This year over 120 people gathered on the Huttons’ lighted front lawn in Victoria to watch and participate in this fall classic. Tommy Hutton Victoria, Minnesota
THE CHEETAHS. The U9 Girls CC United Maroon Soccer Team finished the fall season with a winning record of 7-2! We have ten girls on our team, four of them from Victoria. The others are from Chanhassen, Carver, and Chaska. The team, nicknamed the Cheetahs, defeated Orono, Maplebrook, Wayzata, and Edina and lost to Minnesota Thunder West and Plymouth in the West District of the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association. We also participated in a Fall Jamboree Soccer Tournament in Ramsey, Minnesota, where teams from throughout the metro area participated. Our team won all three games against Cottage Grove, Dakota Rev, and South St. Paul despite a very chilly morning!
