Daylight Savings Time Ends. Time will fall back to standard time again at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6th, 2011, when daylight saving time ends. Daylight Savings Time was adopted by some countries during World War I. First established in the USA in 1918.
Election Day. Tuesday, November 8th. A capital projects technology referendum for School District 112 in the amount of $1.98 million each year for 10 years. Polling place for Victoria residents: Victoria City Hall on Rose Street in downtown Victoria. Time: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Veterans Day. Friday, November 11th. Annual American holiday honoring military veterans. It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Major hostilities for World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.
City Council Meetings. Monday, November 14th, and Monday, November 28th. Held at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at Victoria City Hall on Rose Street.
Gazette Deadline. Deadline for the December Christmas issue of the Victoria Gazette is Monday, November 21st, or as close to that date as possible without missing the boat:)
Community Thanksgiving Service. Wednesday evening, November 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Auburn Moravian Church in Victoria. The entire community is invited and welcome.
Thanksgiving Day. Thursday, November 24th. Celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday. In September 1620, the Mayflower and 102 pilgrims left Plymouth, England, suffering a treacherous 66-day crossing of the Atlantic Ocean and a first brutal winter. In November of 1621, after a successful first corn harvest, Governor William Bradford organized a feast of thanksgiving and invited Native Americans to join in the three-day feast. |
