November 2012

SHORTER SCOOP FROM OCTOBER

FIRE PROTECTION FOR TOWNSHIP PROPERTIES

*Council approved the Fire Aid Agreement with Laketown Township whereby the Victoria Fire Department provides fire protection to approximately $70 million worth of property in Laketown Township.  Victoria responds to roughly 200 calls per year in the township.  The fee for 2012 will be $12,370.  It is based on Victoria's cost of equipment, apparatus, physical plant, administration, percent of firecalls, and percent of property valuation.  For the first time, this is a multi-year rather than annual agreement, running through 2016.

*Council approved a temporary liquor license for Holy Family Catholic High School for their annual Spirit of Fire fundraiser on November 3rd.

*Council accepted a donation of $250 from Mount Olivet Lutheran Church for Concerts in the Park and $250 for the Victoria Fire Department.

*Mayor Thun reported on a recent meeting of metropolitan mayors where she heard that, as the Metropolitan Council prepares for the year 2040, transportation and transit continue to be a main topic.  "We don't have transportation here," she said.  She also heard that people ages 25 to 35 don't see the seven-county metro area as a destination as they do Colorado, for example.  Also, in the seven counties, she said, "More than 40% will be people of color.  This will probably not be a homogeneous city in the future."

*Final completion date for the Lift Station No. 4 Improvements is November 9th, 2012.  Total contract amount is $154,227.  Change orders amounted to $8,659.  Work was done by CCS Contracting out of New Brighton, MN.

*Payment of bills on October 29th included $36,290 for the assessment contract with Carver County, $32,992 for a new permanent generator at Well House #3, and $99,194 to CCS Contracting toward the Lift Station No. 4 improvement.
