When that fellow from Belgium was visiting us this past September, he noticed a bobber suspended from the ceiling in our garage, dangling at the end of fishing line about midway between floor and ceiling. "For fishing," he said, as he pointed to the easily recognizable red and white plastic sphere that glanced off my windshield as we drove into the garage. "Yes," I said, "for fishing and also to keep me from driving my car into the middle of my kitchen."

Maybe others of you use this little trick in your garages, and maybe others of you have better tricks for gauging the perfect spot to come to a stop, sometimes several times a day, as you're coming and going.

I also must gauge, each month, the perfect spot to hide a fishhook in this, the latest issue, of the Gazette. Last month it was hiding in the belly of the goose on page 32. When I dove into the minnow bucket only yesterday, I found Bernie Joos of Waconia swimming directly in front of my piano pingers and I pulled her out. Or is Bernie a him? No way to tell if the full name is Bernadette or Bernard and so I'll simply say, "Congratulations, Bernie." The ten bucks will be on its way shortly.
