The Scoop

To the Editor:

One time ther was a boy named Sam.  He was a

famous Guy.  Then on Monday the Stage broke down.  When he was on it.  The End.

To the Editor:

I am looking for an article that appeared in the November 2009 edition of the Gazette.  I saw on your website it was listed under the "Headlines" click but I was unable to see the article in its entirety.  I was wondering if it would be possible to get a copy of the entire article.  It is titled, "Our Family at Home in Victoria" by Dale Riley of Fresh Seasons.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Steering Committee of Scott-Carver Project Community Connect, I would like to thank all of the individuals and organizations that made this year's event on October 16th so successful.  Through this one-day event, we were able to help 364 people who are "living on little," those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

We send our deepest appreciation to Oak Ridge Hotel and Conference Center in Chaska for donating the space for this large event and for all the assistance provided by their terrific staff.

We thank Carver County Commissioner Gayle Degler, Chaska Mayor Mark Windschitl, and Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke for speaking at opening ceremonies.

Our thanks also go out to Congressman John Kline for recognizing Project Community Connect with the 2012 Star of the North Award and Congressman Erik Paulsen for his letter of support.  A video by Senator Amy Klobuchar shown at the opening ceremony was also appreciated.

Scott-Carver Project Community Connect is funded entirely by donations.  This year we had 18 sponsoring businesses and organizations that each donated more than $250 in funds, products, or services.

We want to thank Apple Ford Shakopee, Canterbury Park, the CAP Agency, Carver County AFSCME Local 2789 Employees, Encore Chauffeured Limousine, GE Fleet, Heading Home Scott-Carver, Kwik Trip, Loaves and Fishes, Oak Ridge Hotel and Conference Center, Promolink Inc., Shakopee Lions Club, SmartLink Transit, Sponsel's Minnesota Harvest, St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Victoria Lions Club, VSP Vision Center for Life, and Wagner Press and Graphics for sponsoring this year's event.

New this year, we received support from three dental practices that provided vouchers for those who are most in need of this type of assistance.  We thank Park Dental of Chaska, Strait Smiles of Belle Plaine, and Children's Dental Services of Savage for their generous support.

We also appreciate the help we received from eleven legal firms from both Scott and Carver Counties and from medical professionals who donated their time to provide consultations at the event.

We are grateful to everyone who donated funds, products, time, and energy to Scott-Carver Project Community Connect.  In addition to our Steering Committee and those staffing the 70 provider groups that were at the event, we had 87 volunteers who helped throughout the day.

The hard work and dedication of all the individuals involved in Project Community Connect is what makes it possible for us to connect as a community and help our friends and neighbors with the challenges they face.  It is this type of community involvement and community service that is going to make it possible for us to move Heading Home Scott-Carver (the 10-year Plan to End Homelessness) forward.  Thank you all for being part of the solution.
